Depends on what you mean by shorting bars?

For anyone who has secured the terminal strip to a surface, what size/length of fastener did you use?

You can use #4 3/4 inch screws.

Will these work w fat 12 AWG stranded wire for 12v outdoor lighting, or is this only for smaller wire?

No. The largest wire this will take is 14A. 12Ga wire is 3+mm, this is 2.5mm. Of course with stranded you could always over twist or cut a few strands of to jam it in. I wouldn’t recommend it. The other issue is these are rated for 10a. If you are using 12ga wire near capacity you could melt them. And finally, out-door means corrosion is an issue. I would suggest an automotive or wet/damp rated block instead of these. I use these successfully for a dry location outdoor block for sprinkler valves. After a few years I throw them away and replace because they corrode and don’t loosen any more.
