No. It does not need to be connected to a device.

can you connect both microphones to a iPad the same time?

I didn’t try to connect both to the iPad but i was able to do it with my Mac book

Where does the sound come from? The microphone or the device its connected to? In my case it would be the computer or Promethean board.

The sound should actually come from the microphone itself, once it's paired to a playlist of some sort, because it is a Bluetooth!

Can I connect to my car and play music along with playing the music?

I haven’t connect it to my car but I connected it to my phone and played music and song a few songs
