Thank God
Thank God I found this product. Couldn't find it anywhere else and I couldn't get my Chevy Aveo (2006) out of gear with out pushing down the break relase button with a flat head and had really hard time getting key outta ignition. So glad this fixed the problem. Even found very easy directions for fixing it. Here it is because directions were HARD to find[...]Buy this if this is a problem your having. It took my mechanic under 30 minutes and he charged me $40. Other place tried to charge me $200 claiming the need to go through the transmission (wrong). They need to go through the gear shift. Good luck and hope this helps.

Can't remove your key or shift out of park?
TL;DR: This part worked. I can shift out of park and remove the key again in my 2006 Aveo. The "cannot shift out of park, cannot remove key" problem manifested itself in my 2006 Aveo a few days ago when I away from home. Swell. Here's a quick tip to the next victim: if you remove the 10A fuse to the radio, it deactivates the catch in the steering column that prevents key removal. You'll still have to insert a flat object in the park lock override and you won't have a radio or dash clock. Anyway, I managed to swap out the switch/solenoid assembly myself after a couple of hours of struggle and it now works flawlessly. At least it's a relief to get this failure out of the way.
