5 micron is much finer filtering than what you typically find for a carbon ...
Been using these as our second stage filter in our home system for many years now (first stage is polypropylene filter). 0.5 micron is much finer filtering than what you typically find for a carbon block filter. The extra cost is worth it, I think.

Lowered water pressure too much
I'm sure this is an awesome filter... it was recommended to me by my water guy.Unfortunately the .5 micron just dropped our water pressure too much. We were only able to last about a week before I had to swap it out.

North Carolina well red clay removed once and for all.
we had HORRIFIC red clay in our water.. I started with a 45 micron backwash filter system and then a 5 micron filter.. still red clay would stain our toilets and sinks slightly. Finally this one gives us pure clean water.. Water pressure has been reduced.. but this could be fixed by installing two filters in parallel. So far i have used it for a month and it still has decent flow.

Major issue with flow and pressure loss
Had major problems with pressure drop and flow restriction with this filter. Pressure down 25% and flow down 50% or more (on day one). Replaced with a 0.5 micron non-carbon string-wound filter and everything went back to normal. I can read flow on my softener control so I know exactly what is happening. I do not have a pressure gauge downstream from this filter so I can only judge that by performance at a faucet or shower head. I did not really need the carbon - just thought it was a good thing to have on well water final stage. This may be a good filter but watch out if you have low pressure to start with.
