I'm gripped by this vice!
For me, opting for this particular brand and model of vice was an easy decision to make. So many reputable and skilled woodworkers world-wide have this particular quick-release vice fitted to their benches. Most notably, Paul Sellers, the respected British woodworking guru (with over fifty years experience) advocates and uses this very same vice. So, if it's good enough for Mr Sellers, it's certainly good enough for me!I found that fitting the vice wasn't as difficult as I'd envisaged. It's really a case of doing your homework in advance, and taking your time. For those inexperienced, I would advise watching the YouTube video of Paul Sellers fitting one of these during his 'How to Make a Workbench' series (episode 8). Even though I have a different design of bench, Paul's advice and in-depth demonstration proved most helpful. This vice weighs a whopping 16.30Kg - so it's preferable to get a helping hand when initially positioning it in place. I recently made my own woodworking bench, so found it easy enough to position this vice and affix it all by myself while I had the carcass of my bench upside down. I used four M10 x 50mm exterior coach screws (hexagon heads) to secure the bottom base of the vice. I fitted the front plate of the vice to the side of my bench using two M6 x 50mm coach screws (hexagon heads). I made my jaw liners from the left-over 18mm plywood I'd used for my bench top and lower shelf. These work fine, though I will probably replace them with hardwood jaws in the future.I loved making my own woodworking bench, but the icing on the cake was fitting this quick-release vice to it. I'm now all geared up to start making 'stuff' out of wood - and I'm rather excited by the prospect! In my opinion, this is an excellent vice, it's been very well-made, operates smoothly, and should last me many, many years. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this product to you. Thanks for reading my review, I've enjoyed writing it, and hope that it's been of use to you.

Check who is responsible for delivery
I've had this vice now for a few years and it works fine with no issues. I don't think it's as smooth as the old originals that it's based on and it isn't as well finished but it is solid and heavy in the right places. It was expensive but I believe it's reasonable value for money. The reason it gets two stars is for the delivery. it was just dumped on my door step in the rain in full view from the road. As I said it's an expensive valuable item and according to the courier that delivered it "it was signed for" (IT WASN'T, at least not on the level, maybe by the driver) so I probably would have been at a loss if it had been stolen. And Amazon doesn't make it easy to make a complaint if something has been "signed for" delivered. Amazon needs to improve its delivery partner in this case.

and it's been great, it's extremely heavy and once you make some ...
this is my first vice, used on a nicholson style 8 x 4 foot beast of a bench, and it's been great, it's extremely heavy and once you make some jaws for it with hardwood, you can't go wrong, the only thing I changed was to make a wooden dog to replace the metal one, and re oiled it with white lithium grease, the quick release worked well from the moment I started using it. I bought this one in the end because it was cheaper than buying a second hand vintage record vice and just as good quality.

Cheap And Cheerful
You get what you pay for. It is a heavy chunk of metal, and I am happy with it for the price, but as soon as I get any better than noob amateur I'll be upgrading. The Jaws aren't completely square with each other

Easily installed great vice
After struggling with a less than good vice it was a real treat to get this one. It has made my woodworking life much easier and given more accuracy to what I do.
