Bags are convenient for on-the-go and good for keeping leftovers from drying out during reheating
If you’re one to make up large batches of food and freeze it for your family on nights you’re in a hurry or for giving portioned meals (elderly / shut-ins), these bags are a godsend: they eliminate days of defrosting time in the fridge. It really is amazing that these bags can go right from the freezer to the microwave. Prior to this product, I would have to remember to get something out of the freezer in advance to thaw in the fridge before steaming in bag — or I would have to cut the bag open and just do a slow microwave defrost on a plate. These Meal Prep and Microwavable bags are the same quality as you’d expect from the Foodsaver brand. The bags are thick, sturdy, and food cooks evenly in them. What I like about these bags:- You don’t have to add moisture to the bag or blanche vegetables before sealing, the bag steams on its own with the vent holes that are built into them.- I haven’t had any trouble sealing any of the bags. The seals are fast and even just like with regular rolls or bags.- The size is great for reheating a quart of vegetables for the family - or for an entree (e.g. meatloaf, lasagna, etc) for two people.- These stand up and are easier to get food into than many other types of sealed bags.- I love that there are cooking instructions and microwaving time guidelines printed on each bag. There are only guidelines given for poultry, seafood, and vegetables and there is a range of time given since people have different strengths of power in their microwaves but it gives you an idea of where to start).- Reheating things in these bags retains the moisture better than microwaving out on a plate. Meat cooked in these is so much juicier! What I don’t like as much:- You can’t control the size of the bags like you can off of a roll.- These are single use-bags only and given the price, they’re fairly expensive. They are perfect for quick on-the-go meals, preserving in-season vegetables instead of canning them, or for meals for shut-ins who may forget to take things out of the freezer in advance. For these applications, the price is worth it.- You can’t use these in a pan of boiling water to heat them up (only simmering - manufacturer says that over 170 degrees will compromise the integrity of the bags), and they shouldn’t be used for sous-vide either because the venting holes will let water in.- You shouldn’t use these bags with a non-FoodSaver brand of sealer. I have that brand and these work great with no problems for me but other brand may seal at different temperatures and cause the bag to be ruined.Overall, I am very happy with these other than they’re a bit pricy. Regular FoodSaver bags/rolls will still have their applications but I have found a lot of uses for these and will definitely buy more to use for their convenience and the way they keep food more moist and flavorful.

Inventive Way to Have Meals/Food Within Minutes
These food prep bags seal perfectly under vacuum, just as all FoodSaver bags do, but then when later placed in the microwave, vent under steam pressure to heat the contents without exploding. These are fantastic for portioning food to reheat days (if you refrigerate) or even months (if you freeze) later. Because the food is vacuum-sealed, it has less chance of drying out or growing bacteria, within reason.Taking the lead from the few recipes on the company's website and from shelf-stable packages of cooked grains I've tried, I packaged portions of a buffalo cauliflower and quinoa dish so that I could simply reheat for a lunch or solo dinner. Leftover cilantro lime rice when into the freezer for a side dish for the two of us to be enjoyed later. When we grilled chicken and had leftovers, into a meal prep bag the extras went. Although I've always made extra food to freeze for another day, these bags save me time if I'm going to microwave the food anyway. They go right from freezer to microwave. These are especially good if you cook on the weekend for the rest of the week. Just store in the refrigerator. I'm a little leery of vacuum-packing sandwiches, as good as the caprese sandwich recipe looks, but I'll probably try at some point. I look forward to freezing green beans from my garden in these bags, although I'll have to figure out the appropriate blanching and microwaving times. Maybe I'll even fully cook them before sealing, as it shows in the company's video. The only drawback is the size. If you are prepping for a family, then you'll probably want to put different components of the meals in separate bags so that you have enough. Although it can get pricey using these over time, convenience always costs more, even when you prepare your own meals.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Meal prep or freeze and steam.
I use the Freeze and Steam Foodsaver bags, which are similar to these, just branded differently. They are expensive, but I like them because they stand up and are easy to fill. The bags are great for freezing and steaming vegetables. I like to add a pat of herb butter or other seasoning to the bag along with blanched vegetables to create my own steam in the bag meals, which when compared to the price of similar brand name meals, are less costly, even when considering the price of these bags. I also use them to freeze soup and chili. Since they stand up, it’s easier to fill the bags and stand them up in the freezer to freeze before sealing, and they are designed to stand up in the microwave when heating. The bags can be used to vacuum seal foods for refrigeration or for freezing. I use them for freezing. Another useful feature of the bags is that the directions for use are printed on them. I also like these bags because they don’t take up a lot of room in the freezer or refrigerator like the containers do, and they are portable and fit easily in a lunch bag without taking up a lot of space. The only downside to using these bags for meal prepping is, unlike the containers, they are not designed for reuse.Overall, I like the bags. I never considered making sandwiches and freezing in the Foodsaver bags for later use, but I tried out the Caprese Sandwich recipe here on the product page, and it was good. I assembled the sandwich, placed it in the bag and froze before sealing so it wouldn’t be squished when vacuum sealing. I thought about the brand name frozen hamburger and chicken sandwiches on the market so after trying out the caprese recipe, I may experiment with making other sandwiches as well.I’ve used 8 or 9 bags so far, and none of them lost their seal. The bags are ventilated for reheating in the microwave, and they puff up and deflate during the cook time.
