nice read
Good writing, flowed well with mystery and humor. I’m not a big fan of potty jokes so some of the humor wasn’t funny to me however it was ok not rude or nasty. I plan to read more of this author’s work.

Fun story
I like the idea that a line of humans can communicate with their cats. Would be so nice if I was able to talk with mine. Easy, comfortable read. Even suitable for kids.

Expected more, got less
I didn’t enjoy this book, but finished it to see if it got better since it’s the first of a series. I figured out who did it too easily, but what really bothered me was the names of some of the characters. It’s a petty gripe, but it is what it is. The characters felt like caricatures rather than people. The standard elements are here - a body, a mystery, a new detective that’s abrasive, a nosy reporter that’s a click short of lovable, an inappropriate grandma (she’s possibly the best character), and a killer that tries for another body but is easily foiled by Max and promptly confesses. On the bright side, it’s an easy book to put down and pick up again so that gets it 3 stars for me.

Chuckle worthy light reads!
The first Max book was ok, but good enough to read the second, I'm now on #21, LOL! The characters continue to develop and are all very funny and unique. If you liked Golden Girls as a TV sit com, you will find this cat mystery series equally as funny and endearing...plus the mysteries are actually done well. For me the conversations amongst the cats and other animals (yes the cats interview other species in their quest for clues) are very entertaining. That the author by using, thinly veiled current newsworthy characters/events/issues as a backdrop for the mystery make for endless scenarios and great humor. My husband just got me the next twenty books so I'll have through 40 (eventually I'll get them all for sure). I find each a relaxing light read that make me laugh...who could ask for more?

Really good book
I enjoyed reading a mystery from a cat's point of view, finding it fun and interesting. Mr Saint knows cats quite well.

pretty good editing
I don’t think this series is for me. I don’t mind jokes, sarcasm, silliness and puns. This series had an abundance of all. I do think it might be a bit too silly for me. The villain was very obvious and that was a bit disappointing.

Feline Sleuth Max and his human partner solving crimes. A cozy Mystery with Humor.
The feline Max and his human Odelia share a bond that many cat persons could envy. They can talk to each other, or better saying, Odelia, with her witchy DNA, can speak felinese and communicate with cats. This allows Max and his other feline friends Dooley and Harriet to help her as an unorthodox web of informants, snooping where humans do not perceive them and giving this young small town reporter material for publishing in the town's newspaper. But this small town now has two new things: a hunk new cop Chase (with his own cat Brutus!) and a murder of a famous writer. Excited with the opportunity to help his human unravel the mystery Max begins detecting among the cat population, while Odelia, butting heads with the new cop, tries her hands with the humans... Personally I am a cat's person and the fact that Max is the narrator of many of the chapters made this book funnier as I laughed out loud thinking about my own cat and his antics... Charming first book of a cozy mystery with a very cute cat. Recommended to cat persons that love these furballs and would like very much to have Odelia's gift...

The first of the Mysteries of Max saga.
This is the first book in a much-loved series which is now up into over 70 books! It introduces us to Max, the large (big-boned, not fat) "blorange" (not ginger) cat with a great detective brain, and to the the Poole family, the females of which have the ability to understand cats when they speakIf you like cats and cosy murder mysteries, you'll love these!

very funny cozy reading!
I love reading books that are fun, lighthearted and exude warm feelings of friendship. I also love cats. the story is fresh, but it is the cats and their world that makes it so wonderful! books are meant to take you out of reality and let you dream, this one does that.
