Q: Does this work against teenagers-adults all day eating?

Yes it does & I love it. compared with others refrigerator lock which with keys,this is wonderful, i needn't to look for keys anymore！highly recommend.

Q: Has anyone used these on a washer and dryer?

I don't know but I use 2 of them to keep my Malamute out of the trash can

Q: What happens when the lock is open with the wire? Is it convenient to get in and out of the fridge without the wire getting in the way?

The wire doesn't especially get in the way, which is good since the lock doesn't work so we ended up with the wire just sitting there hanging out full-time anyway.
