The hair is soft. It does shed quite a bit. I receive complements on this unit. I tried to flat iron a section, use very low heat. I ended up not doing the full unit because I prefer the kinky texture and flat iron was taking that away. Would have given it 5 stars except the velcro on the headband is not enough for smaller heads like mine. I will need to add more velcro or cut & redo the band.
