I don't know what the calf width is, but I will tell you that the material is stretchy enough that I needed to add a strip of 3" wide heavy propylene tape at the top to give them enough stability to stay up. After I stabilized them they stayed up and were fine for hot weather. Without it, although they 'fit' when I zipped them up, in 10 minutes of schooling (legging up a sluggish horse) they were around my ankles and the stirrup leathers were pinching me as they would riding without any lower leg covering. (Yikes!)
