I bought this item to replace the intake strainer on my Fluval filter. The original Fluval part has a ball valve to help with priming but becomes very quickly clogged and blocked with debris requiring cleaning every few days to keep the filter running properly.This strainer needed a little modification of the rubber seal to make it fit onto the intake tube but once in position seems to have cured the problem. It has now been in place for a couple of weeks and the filter is still running well.The mesh is also small enough to prevent fry from being inadvertently sucked into the filter.

Fantastic filter guard that fits Fluval 107
Bought this to stop the cherry shrimps getting sucked into my fluval 107 external filter. I had to use a tooth pick to manipulate the rubber seal around the inlet pipe, but wasn’t too difficult to do. Priming function still works without the original ball valve too. Doesn’t seem to restrict flow, although you may need to run your hand over every so often if it begins to get coated in debris, but this is easier to clean than the original guard that came with the filter.Works a charm and it was only £4 for two guards. They are a bit delicate, so be careful not to squish them, but certainly not an issue once they’re in the tank. Highly rate this product!

Keeps the babies in the tank
Brought to stop my baby fish and shrimp from being sucked into my oase biomaster. Works a treat! I did swop them out each day as they get clogged quickly but with two it was easy!

Shrimp protector
Keeps shrimp,snails and fry out of filters.The mesh is nice and lightweight, easy to rinse and fit to the filter intake. Rust free.The only downside is due to the pros, it's easy to bend,mish-shapen. So care is to be taken when handling.

Pretty sturdy and quite good
I replaced the intake strainer of a Fluval canister filter (207) with one of this little cages, it seems working pretty well, the black rubber is quite solid so I had to force it into the filter pipe which is good as it feels like it will never come out.
