I bought this to make a meditation sand box. The reviews from actual sand boxes complained about the shallow box. This has a perfect depth. I used polyurethane spray around all the corners and while still wet added some sand. Sort of like flouring a cake pan. I let that dry for 24 hours then added the sand. I bought sand tools separately. I love the magnetic lid to keep dust and stuff out. Perfect for me!

Save your time and money...buy something else. I gave it 2 starts since it still functions as a shadowbox, but that's about all it has going for it.The first thing I noticed when I received the shadowbox was the horrific smell that was imbued into the fabric backing. I have no idea what caused it but it has been Febreze'd a dozen times and sitting open on my counter for over two weeks now and the smell still won't go away. It doesn't smell like packaging or any wood finish I've ever used, so I don't know what it is, but it is awful. My only hope is that it will dissipate before I need to wrap it for Christmas in one week, or the giftee won't notice it. If this was the only issue, I wouldn't have bothered to try and send it back or even written a review, but I discovered more issues as I prepared the shadowbox as a Christmas gift.The second thing I noticed was the large scratch on the top / side pane. It is definitely not a part of the natural wood...more that it was scratched during production and someone decided to sell it anyway. The shipping box and packaging was in tact, so I know it wasn't damaged during shipping.The last thing I noticed (that I will comment on) is that one side is completely unfinished - it draws your attention to it as you are looking into the shadowbox, and away from whatever is actually in the shadowbox itself.Overall, I'm very disappointed in the poor quality and I would not waste my money on this again - especially considering there are many different options to purchase. If I had more time and realized all of these issues sooner, I would have shipped the shadowbox back and bought something else. Unfortunately, that's not an option for me, but perhaps this review will save you some headache.

Perfect way to remember our beloved dog Mimosa. I had to sew her collar on with invisible thread to keep it from falling. It was perfect and worked out better than I had thought.

I used these boxes in my 85yr old fireplace. At 8” square, they fit into the vent spaces that are no longer needed. I very carefully, trimmed about an eighth of an inch off of one side and the bottom and painted them white. They are very light weight wood (balsa or something like it). They did withstand me removing the hinges & glass to paint them, then reassemble. The magnet on the door is sufficiently strong and they are well constructed but they won’t hold anything heavy. Next step is a fireplace door & gas insert!

It's a decent frame. It opens and closes just fine and the magnets keep it closed. But mine came with a pretty glaring flaw in that one side of the lid is really rough, almost like it wasn't sanded at all. It's a bit tough to photograph but you can really see it in the first picture in comparison to the rest of the frame. It's not unfixable, but I'm a little annoyed that I'll have to sand it myself before I do the diorama I was planning. I expected just a little better for the price.
