The shears surprised me. I hadn’t realized how excellent they were. My first use left me perplexed, the branch I was cutting wasn’t that thick, yet it seemed that I couldn’t cut through it, but to my surprise it thatched and cut through with minimal effort, it was an awesome realization. Being in my late 70s and having lost some of my hand’s strength, this shears are a breeze to use & I highly recommend them.

Heavy-duty, well-made. I love the ratchet mechanism that allows you to cut heavy branches, up to 1 inch diameter of fresh wood, in several steps, which greatly reduces the amount of effort needed. If you have osteoarthritis like I do, it also greatly reduces the amount of pain, to pretty much no pain at all. I also appreciate the yellow handle to make it easier to find when I drop it in the shadows under dense vegetation and the comfortable ergonomics of the handles and lock/unlock button. Easy to drop handles-first in my pocket (blades-first soon makes a hole in the pocket) and quick on the draw to take out. The last pair lasted nearly 4 years of heavy use before the ratchet mechanism lost function. Just now I bought two to replace it, so next time one breaks or I lose one temporarily somewhere in my 1-acre garden jungle, I'll always have a backup. It was hardly an inconvenience, since they arrived within 12 hours of my online order.

The pruning shear is as described in the listing. I found it easy to use, and what attracted me to them was the ease to cut through if my hands grow weaker as I age. I would buy again, but the manner and quality of the design will most likely outlast my lifetime!

I am a large woman taller than average but not super tall and my hands are not small my fingers are quite long. These trimmers do not open the blade wide enough to cut a good thick stem. They may work better for tea roses but you do have to open your grip so wide that you are almost about to drop the grips to get it on the stem. That makes your hand shaky and sloppy while cutting because you are awkwardly balancing the grips to get them around the stem. That does not make for enjoyable gardening. Now if you are a very large man (built like a football player) your hands might easily widen enough. Think Brian Shaw or Eddie Hall. Pass on this one ladies unless you are a big and tall gal with great hands. They're metal and seem decent. Just poor design for the average person. Fantastic for pro athlete types and bodybuilders that need bigger stuff. As far as quality.....I don't trust it. It's hard to say but it didn't seem to cut very well. Now that can be remedied by sharpening the blade but that is a skill I do not have. Could be great needs rework on the design and sharper blades. I loved the rings around the grip. that was useful in keeping large thorny branches away from my rose gloves as an added protection.

The shears I received were too tight to open. I filed for an exchange, and it came the next day. And the new shears are perfect.

Mr. Man here; I ordered these for my wife after she pinched the web between her thumb & forefinger with her old clippers. I thought the ratchet function would alleviate that problem. After she used them I asked her what she thought about them. She said they are very sharp & worked but she had to re-grip them to make them cut for each notch of the ratchet. So I gave them a try & it seems to me that the ratcheting system wasn't working properly. Years ago I had a pair ( not this brand ) & they didn't work well either. What I found with these was that the ratchet did not catch & advance to the next " step" of the ratchet. I had to manually fidget with the thing to make it work & wound up twisting the blade around the branches to make them cut. No, the branches weren't that thick. 1/2" at most. They ARE very sharp though, I'll give them credit for a sharp blade. But that wasn't really what I bought these for. I know how & can, sharpen any type of blade. I bought these for the ratcheting function so my wife would have an easier time pruning. Maybe it's just this pair that is defective. I know some other reviewers said they had problems with the ratchet also but it was only a few if I remember right. I wouldn't buy these again.

Really very excellent pair of pruning shears, especially for those of us with arthritis in our hands. I cleaned up a tangled mess in my backyard without a single thing of pain and I didn’t have to use a drop of oil.

Bought as a gift: doesn’t look giftable. It’s light and looks cheap with a Very poor finish and has Chinese script on the label. Unless the Germans have changed their script, I doubt that it’s from Germany!
