I just received my Anecdote A5 journal notebook and I am very excited to start using it. My first impression is that it's sturdy, well made, and the perfect color. It may be made in China but it appears to be a Las Angeles based company who designed it and sells it, so at least there is some domestic benefit.This is obviously meant to compete with Moleskine notebooks. And I would say that the value of this book far outweighs the other brand. This notebook was about 20% cheaper than it's brand-name counterpart and seems to be just as good. I especially like the fabric feel of the outer cover, and I think the hard cover is thicker than the other brand.The pocket is a nice addition. I would point out that the side of the pocket is made of paper, whereas the other brand uses fabric. I'm not sure there is any benefit to one or the other, so the pocket on the Anecdote will work just fine for business cards or small notes I think.The paper is thick so bleed thoughs should not be an issue. However, I have not yet written in it. I'm still finishing my last journal.All in all a good purchase. It was more expensive than some on Amazon but cheaper than Moleskine, so I think this will be a 5-star product with a 4-star price.+++UPDATE: MARCH 2021+++I've been writing in this book for three months and I felt I should add my opinion about the paper. First of all, I put a lot of pressure on my pen when I write and I use a G2 most of the time, which is a gel-ink style pen that tends to bleed through most paper I write on. With the thickness of this paper, I can write on both sides of the paper and there is no evidence of writing on the other side. High quality. Slightly heavier than I was expecting. I am thrilled with this new journal. Smooth writing easy on the fine paper with light grey dots. Handy pocket on back interior good for keeping receipts or other little keepsakes. The band that keeps the journal shut seems good quality as well, has not stretched out or snapped, though I've only had a little less than a month. Olive green color is gorgeous. Also bought one in mustard yellow to give as a gift. I will definitely purchase again once this one is filled up.

I'm a stationary snob and this is by far my favorite journal! The pages are thick so I can write in my sharpie s-gel on both sides without any bleed through. The pages are smooth so the ink glides on. The book binding allows it to lie flat when you're writing in it. It is hard cover so you always have a firm surface to write on. The band allows you to keep it closed and protected for travel. Perfect!

The pages are thick and luxurious, perfect for jotting down thoughts or sketches. The olive hue, while lovely, leans towards a softer shade rather than a bold olive green. The packaging is thoughtful and protective, making it a delight to unwrap. Ideal for anyone who appreciates quality stationery that's as functional as it is beautiful. It's become my go-to companion for capturing ideas with style.

Update: I bought this journal again in a different color, numbered the pages, and again found it to be short a few pages (96 instead of 100 pages). This may be minor but something really irks me about a basic detail of not being clarified / attended to.This is a simple, well-made option for anyone else as annoyed by the dominance of faux leather notebooks, but not perfect, alas! (The quest continues for a notebook I love as much as the cloth-bound Paperchase journals I used to get at B&N in the mid-aughts!)I'm satisfied overall — I really love the green color, and it feels comfortable in my hands. But I have a few quibbles!1) First, the page count says 100, but after dutifully numbering my pages, I am sure that there are only 96 pages. I know this is a minor detail, but come on!2) There's some unevenness in how the pages at the ends of the book (first couple & last couple pages) are bound, so the pages don't completely lie smoothly.

I was quite impressed with the paper quality. It Is a perfect balance between the thinner paper of a leuchtterum and the 160gsm of A&O notebooks. I did a pen test and it performed very well (see second and third photo). I even used my juiciest TWSBI broad nib pen and it was fine! The paper is a little bit toothy so there is some feedback when you write. It's pleasant to me but if you prefer the smoothness of TRP then you might not be used to this one. All in all this is a well made 100gsm notebook at an affordable price.

I have the hardest time getting motivated to journal, but this dotted Anecdote journal has me excited about the possibilities of how creative I can get with my book tracking! I’m already thinking of the accessories I can get (stencils, stickers…) to help make it fun.The packaging is so thoughtful and well done, and the feel of the hardcover and premium (thick) pages is really sturdy. Great addition with the elastic band and ribbon bookmark!I got the blossom color and love it! Highly recommend!

This journal is absolutely perfect! The pages are thick and you have the option of dotted or lined—I chose lined but now I want a dotted one too! The cover is gorgeous-so sturdy with a nice fabric cover and I like the ribbon bookmark/elastic band to keep everything in place! This is definitely versatile and could be used for so many purposes-highly recommend!
