Genuinely good
I feared the worst based on all the reviews of rum substitutes. I used to drink rum and whiskey with diet coke (admiral Nelson and jack daniels, so nothing high class). I was a moderate to heavy drinker. This is genuinely a good tasting substitute. To me it tastes like a hybrid of jack and admiral. I get more of a sour mash note, I expect from the clove. I drank this with coke zero. It gave me the substitute rum/whiskey taste I have been missing but gave up due to health and addiction reasons. I also drink plenty of NA beer so this is a nice change. It is also 0% alcohol so no worries about getting a hint of alcohol like you may with 0.5% beer, if that's your worry. It also smells like rum/whiskey. Of course you're not going to get the same burning sensation as you would from alcohol, but as someone who drank whiskey and rum with coke, this is not much of a worry. I did not try it on the rocks. As a former rum and whiskey drinker, will 100% be purchasing this again.

Disappointed
This is my second Ritual Zero Proof purchase. I also have their tequila alternative which, although it is nothing like tequila, I've been able to come up with other ingredients to make some interesting non-alcoholic mocktails. This, their rum alternative however, is near undrinkable! Like their zero proof tequila, their rum alternative tastes absolutely NOTHING like rum and there is not going to be any combination of ingredients to make it be a replacement for actual rum. I expected that, and was hoping to at least be able to use it to create some interesting mixed drinks, but, unfortunately, the flavor is something I just can't enjoy. The aroma was a little like watered down root beer with a hint of molasses. Promising! And even though it's aroma is kind of weak, it made me hopeful that the taste might be something I'd be able to work with! Nope!! On first sip it tasted like I had taken a sip of a diluted, sweet bbq sauce mixed with a chemical campfire smoke additive. The chemical smoke flavor stuck around too!! Wanting to give it the benefit of the doubt I tried several more tastes and eventually the chemical smoke/BBQ flavor gave way to a very subtle dark chocolate but the chemical smoke aftertaste was always there! Still giving it a chance I tried it in several mocktail recipes (some from the ritual site and some of my own) and none of them are any good. There is just no getting past the campfire/BBQ taste! Try making a piña colada or rum punch with something that tastes like a campfire! Not happening! The only thing a could find that helped mask the nastiness was to top off the drinks with ginger beer and to make sure to always include lime juice. So there may be something there that will save this from going down the drain, but I'm not getting my hopes up!

Honestly impressed!
I’m honestly very impressed with Ritual! This smells and tastes a lot more like real rum than I expected. To clarify, I am not a rum snob and when I look for NA spirits for my mocktails (I’m completely AF due to medical reasons), I’m not looking for something that tastes exactly like the real thing, nor am I looking for something to drink on the rocks. The first drink I made with this had Ritual Rum, fresh lime, muddled mint, agave syrup, and a splash of club soda. It was delicious and honestly I could not believe how much the rum flavor held its own. It really did taste like I ordered a fancy cocktail from a bar. Highly recommend. I’ll have to check out other Ritual products as well. This has been my favorite NA spirit so far, tied with Cut Above Whiskey and Cut Above Mezcal.

Tastes More like Jack
I was excited to try this Rum alternative. I'm in Recovery and been craving Rum and Coke. To me it doesn't taste like Rum but if you are like me and like Jack and Coke too this is for you. It tastes just like Jack to me. So while I was a little disappointed it doesn't taste like Rum, I got lucky that it tastes like something else I used to drink. I definitely will be trying it in coke. If this was labeled a whiskey alternative I'd give it a 5 stars. It is delicious but definitely to me doesn't taste like Rum.

Not enough flavor for me, but Ok in the right mix
It’s what most reviewers say - tastes nothing like rum, and certainly not meant to be taken in its own. That being said, mixed with a coke and some lime, it gives the semblance of a sort of cocktail. The best mix for me so far was with a pineapple and coconut flavored seltzer. I think unfortunately the taste is too subtle to add much to anything. We will drink it as my partner is sober and we’re trying different mocktails, but I wouldn’t buy again.

A Reasonable Spiced Rum Alternative
While no spirit analog will ever truly match the actual spirit, this does a good job as a spiced rum substitute for mixing. I can see (or rather taste) why it it won awards. When mixed, it is easy to suspend disbelief and not feel like one is simply settling. It is, of course, thinner feeling than actual rum, so either more is needed, or the other ingredient need to be milder than the usual, to bring things into balance. For example, my 'rum and coke' uses another brand of soft drink that I find has similar flavor, but less acid sharpness. The result works.

Taste is bad, Spicy kick was good.
The flavor was BAD!! I poured a glass took a few swigs trying too persuade myself into thinking it was good it. was. not.. Though there was a really nice kick to it but the flavor itself was so bad I immediately poured the rest down the drain

It has an... Interesting taste.
So I got this as a Christmas gift that was meant to be shared by the family for us to try both by itself and to mix, and one of us liked it. It's still sitting on the counter. It has a chemically taste that isn't quite like alcohol, I can't put my finger on it exactly. It tastes too artificial for it to be enjoyed by people more sensitive to that kind of profile, but for people that are used to heavier drinks/drinking in general, it still doesn't taste pleasant either; it's just... Strange. I really wish I could describe what exactly it is that bothers me, especially because the entire point of rating it is based on taste. I wish I could be more helpful to people reading the reviews, I really do, but I just don't think this was worth the price for the taste. You're better off making mocktails.
