It's also a crummy knife for trimming your fingernails.
The reviewer who thinks that the cutting edge should be inserted facing forward deserves a nomination for a Darwin award, assuming that he hasn't already cut his own hand or some other body part off. These knives are so poorly designed (I'm being sarcastic here) that they're issued both to riggers in the US Navy and to those in the US Coast Guard. It's an excellent rigging knife, if you need a rigging knife. If you don't know if you need a rigging knife, or don't know how a rigging knife is different from some other macho-wannabee knife, then you don't need a rigging knife. It's got a good, sturdy, thick blade, so that when you slam the back with a mallet to chop line, it won't mushroom or otherwise deform. The only thing I can think of to make the package more useful is to have included a pair of lanyards, so that if you're working aloft you don't kill someone below or lose your tools, but decent lanyards can be bought from other sources.

Poorly designed for right handlers.
Love the knife but the sheath is designed for a left handed user. If worn on the right hip the blade fits in facing forward making it difficult (and dangerous) for a right gander to draw. I called the manufacture about this issue and was told just put the knife in the sheath backwards with the point sticking into the stitching??? BTW, the owner of the company is left handed I was told! Save your money unless you're left handed.

Well Built Tool - And So Is The Sheath!!
Exceptionally well built tool! High quality steel employing traditional and ergonomic features rendering it an outstanding implement for intended use of rope work and general tasks around a sea going vessel. I read a previous review that stated the sheath is designed for a left handed user. I concur that by design it appears backwards; however, careful inspection of the sheath interior reveals that a substantial leather pad is built into the seam side of the sheath and serves to protect both the blade and the stitching. Highly recommend this product!!
