Review of clothbound hardback edition 978-0241303115.Small, slim volume of Owen’s first posthumous collection. All the classics are here. “Strange Meeting”, with it’s astonishing para-rhymes, is the last poem in this lovely collection. No notes or introduction, but the verse well printed, easy to read, rich cloth binding. Small and delicate, full of great poetry, this would make a really nice, relatively inexpensive gift.

You can’t go wrong with classics. Easy five stars.

Of all the WW1 poets I think Wilfed Owen is the best: poignant, emotional and devoid of mannerisms. Exquisite and truly bringing home the horrors of war.

Nearly all Owen’s poems are well crafted, and most are outstanding. Don’t think you know his poetry by the few that are known. I find myself enjoying many in this book that I have not seen elsewhere. I’d recommend Owen’s poems for their masterful use of phonetics, something that is sorely missing in many twentieth-century English-language poets. Some poems in here are not “mature,” and maybe Owen may have never wanted them published, but even these contain beautiful turns of phrase.This edition is also excellent for someone who loves Owen’s poetry but doesn’t care about every alternate version or other products of Stallworthy’s research. That being said, each poem is lightly annotated, and the date and location of its writing is noted. Also, Stallworthy describes what other poems Owen pays homage to, borrows from, or is inspired by, and I have found many other wonderful poems by Harold Monro, Percy Shelley, and Tennyson that inspired Owens through these notes.
