Inspiring!!

Michael Pawlyn managed to inspire me to look deeper into the world of bio-mimetic architecture through his fascinating examples of how sustainable design can be achieved and how the world itself can be shaped. I would recommend this book to everyone even if they have no interest in the subject. After reading anyone will come away with the feeling of how can I make it better. I really wish the book could have been longer so I could have read longer ended up reading it in one sitting. could not help myself.

Michael Pawlyn has been an important inspiration for me, since 2007 when I first met him. Very innovative architecture. This book is "must have" for anyone looking for biomimicry and design. Topics are very organized with clear examples.

Fresh materials and a new humane focus for new edition of a bestseller

This is a new edition of this bestselling book. Lots of fresh material, most importantly the new Guide to Practice for architects. This new edition adds fresh research and new technologies, but most importantly the focus of the book has shifted from technology-centred to human-centred. This puts the importance of biomimicry into an urgent and applicable perspective. A compelling read and an exciting yet increasingly plausible way to approach the built environment from the nanomaterials scale up to future cities.Well illustrated with some really beautiful images and the author's charming hand drawn diagrams. Biomimicry in architecture is maturing as an approach and this book is like a basic manual, coaching on technologies and current products. It also stretched my thinking on using systemic biomimimetic approaches and I often found myself stunned and take aback by the scale of the possibilities and also about how easy it is to find a place for in more conventional approaches. But make no mistake, overall this book is about something which could amount to a radical revision of the standard approach to making architecture. The basic structure of the book is:Foreword: Dame Ellen Macarthur1. Structures2. Materials & manufacturing3. Zero waste systems4. Water management5. Thermal environment control6. What can biology teach us about light?7. Power & buildings8. Synthesis on cities and the futureConclusion: What does biomimicry mean for people?Author: Michael PawlynCommissioning Editor: Fay GibbonsEditorial Consultant: Alison McDougall-WeilProject Editor: Kate Mackillop
