Read how to use it
I will be honest, when I first got it and used it, it didn't work. Some might be wondering why it got 5 stars, well that's because once I read the instructions and used it the way it was meant, it worked. It worked so well that even when it has run out of batteries, the cats stay away from the spot they would constantly go to the bathroom (even with brand new clean litter boxes). If you need to really deter them from going in a certain area, turn on both the sound and shock, it should work. But make sure to read the instructions.

Omg the laughs I’ve had
This is one of the best products I could have bought to teach our animals boundaries in the house .. before this my Rottweiler would bust in my room and just take over everything including the kind size bed.. now with it.. she will walk to the door way and see it and give me the look like dang…. You can’t take a joke, I was just playing .. then walk off like she has been mistreated and any minute Sarah mcglaukin will start singing in the arms of the angels 😂😂😂

Doesn’t work at all
Was really excited to get this. It doesn’t work at all. Have a cat that has decided my home office is her place and started marking in here and making it smell like pee.Bought this to train her not to come in, but doesn’t work at all. Carefully read the instructions. Trimmed her claws to make sure they weren’t too long. Her paws aren’t furry. Pushed the button on the mat and let it calibrate for the full minute. Short pushed the button till the green lights on both static and tone were blinking green every five seconds. What the manual says means it is working.Thought it was maybe that the mat was new and still a bit misshapen, so turned it off and laid it out all night with some items on top to flatten it out.Next morning did the same routine. Push button and let it calibrate for one minute. Change to static and tone and made sure green lights beeping every 5 seconds.Put some food in my office so she’d follow me in. She stepped RIGHT on the mat. Just stood there too. Long enough for me to think “wow this doesn’t work at all”, and then even longer to where I thought “I should take a picture of this”. Stood on it for a good 30 seconds and nothing.I thought still maybe her feet were too furry since the instructions mentioned it so put my hand directly in the middle and pushed down. Held for a good 30 seconds and nothing as well.Battery is fresh out of the pack and fully seated. Followed all instructions (including battery pack facing up). Doesn’t work. At all.

Dies Quickly-- Drains D Battery
As described, battery dies really quickly and I don't keep the large ones handy so it often isn't actually on.

Works Well & Exceeds Expectations - Good Battery Life
Works better than I had expected. When the word "Static" is used, I had the idea that it uses a charge like "static electricity," like when you walk across a carpet and get a static electricity shock when you touch something. The shock from this device is much stronger than that. A pet will not soon forget the shock from this device. It's more like the shock you get when you touch an electric fence on a farm that's used to keep the livestock away from the fence. The battery life is better than I thought it would be, they are the same type as used in smoke alarms, and last for a long time, maybe weeks at least it would seem, and there are re-chargeable batteries available, which the seller recommends, that I have found to be very good, charge fast and long lasting.I have neighbor cats that come onto my patio late at night because they sense the smell of birds that use my bird baths and feeder during the day. And as we know, cats like to mark their territory with urine, which I do not care for. I don't mind if they just want to hang out and harmlessly lounge about, but they come around late at night and are an annoyance, in addition to urinating, they trip my security camera in the wee hours, and I get woken up by an alert.I had been spraying the path to the patio with Vinegar or Ammonia to keep the cats away, but it takes time and the smell is annoying to not only the cats. I'm sure this device will be much more effective in training the cats to stay away. I only use it at night since I don't want the birds to get shocked. It's rated as an indoor item, but works well outdoors if only at night, as long as it's not raining.Overall, it seems to work well, my security camera caught a cat walking onto it, and I was pleased to see that it didn't harm the cat, which seemed to be intrigued with the mat, but not intrigued enough to come back for more after it encountered the electric charge being applied to its feet.
