Why didn't I think about this sooner?
First, the key I have now is a new one because buttons on my previous key wore out and there was a peace of the case that was cut exposing the guts of the key. After getting a replacement, I decided to protect it with a second skin. These were made for my 2013 Ford F-150 and what a huge difference. These Silicone jackets are much tougher than the key fob enclosure. I have been using this for several months now and there's no sign of wear to the outside whatsoever!!
