Q: Is this product lead free?

Dear Customer, This Garden Hose Y Splitter is not Lead Free. Normally all the Brass contain Pb,more or less. Our products contain lead less than 2.8%, you can use them safely. Metals Shop

Q: can you use these to turn the water on and off leaving the water outlet its connected to on all the time?

It is possible to keep the main water valve on and simply use the Y-connector valves to turn the water on/off for each of the junctions. However, I would not encourage this practice, as it is all too easy to leave water valves open connected to hoses that may leak, etc. During the summer months, larger animals sensing water hoses that are full often bite and puncture them in order to access fresh water. If you are not careful in closing each gate valve when connected hoses are not in use, one runs the risk of losing/wasting large quantities of water. This Y-valve is of high quality; so, it is not value failure that is the risk, but failure to close them after each use is completed (and the ease with which children can open them).
