Needed a Dutch Oven for my first attempt at sourdough. Picked this one up on-sale and it helped to make the first attempt very successful. This oven is on the thinner side for cast iron as compared to some of the other brands that are already in my kitchen arsenal. However, it is very sturdy, has good weight and heats up quickly while retaining that heat for an adequate amount of time. It came pre-seasoned but I washed it and put another thin coat of seed oil on it to make sure it was ready to go. The size was perfect for a 750G dough ball, could definitely fit a larger ball if needed. You can certainly spend a lot of $$ on different brands that are well known but for my use, this does the job nicely and seems like it will last a long time. Looking forward to many years of use. This item is made in China and the instructions for use and care mention nothing about its ability to be heated while empty to 500 degrees but I had no issues getting it up to temp and while the casting seems to be a bit rough, it didn't affect the function. Lid fits great and the silicone handles while an appreciated add to the purchase, can't be secured to the handles and seem like they might be more of a potential hindrance than a benefit.

First time owning a cast iron pan and I love how it sears steaks. It gets extremely hot and gives a great crust. Just make sure to leave the windows open and turn the fan on when cooking.It can rust pretty easily if you’re not careful, so dry it quickly and take care of the seasoning. For the price, it’s an excellent value for a Dutch oven and skillet combo.

Haven't used it yet. But larger than anticipated and lid is bigger than expected and deeper. It'll make a great fry pan or homemade pot pie

This has rusted somewhat on its first use. I’ve always been given to understand that cast iron pots are good because you absorb iron as a nutrient from them, but not sure about rust. You would probably be better off with a more conventional non-stick pan.

If you’re worried about this not being Lodge or Griswold, don’t be. It’s a perfect size, you can use the lid for cooking as well. It’s true that not all cast iron is made equally, and this quality is great. I have MANY cast iron pieces of all brands and some don’t get used as much due to quality. This one gets used a ton and is a regular in my rotation. I use it over fire outside more than other applications but it works for everything. It’s perfect.

Perfect for sourdough

Well, I had seen a review where a person had some corrosion on their nearly new edge casting pan so I expected that the seasoning would not be up to Lodge standards. It does not seem to be so. But cast iron enthusiasts know that some people should not have cast iron. So I immediately did something you should not do with cast iron myself. So I guess I should not have cast iron. The first thing I decided to cook was Birria tacos and the recipe called for a dutch oven. This was the only dutch oven I own and I love me some Birria. Birria has acid. Specifically tomatoes and vinegar. I know that this will give any seasoning a problem, and although I rubbed this one down with oil when I got it I did not heat it to season it myself. I decided to risk it. And the factory seasoning survived in perfect shape. See the pictures. One is the lid the other the pan. It was not completely non-stick but I did not need to use anything stronger than water and a rag to clean it. I seasoned it, and put it away gleaming black. It is the right size for sourdough bread, and 5 pounds of chuck cooked to birria. 20-25 dollars less money and this kind of performance I made a good decision. The difference in price paid for my family's dinner tonight.

Bought this specifically to use in my Kamado and gave it its first run with a slow-cooked beef casserole. Absolutely loved it.The cast iron held the heat beautifully and worked perfectly for browning the beef first, then letting everything slowly cook away in the Kamado. It's a good solid piece of cookware and the casserole came out fantastic.I also really like that the lid doubles as a skillet, which makes the set much more versatile than a standard Dutch oven.Very happy with it so far and I can see this getting plenty of use for casseroles, stews, roasts and other slow cooks in the Kamado. Exactly what I was hoping for.

a rock solid, great value cast iron combo that does both skillet & dutch oven. I love the versatility of this. I seasoned once before using and it was an excellent performer. abide by the cast iron rules and you will love cooking steak, sausages, bacon with this. highly recommended
