I bought this when we had a lawn. Sadly, we had to remove it due to the water shortage. Now I have repurposed this to measure the moisture in the potted plants inside the house. My wife thinks the potted plants need to be watered at certain intervals regardless of the soil condition. As we have been married for over 30 years I know not to argue with her. Instead, I use this little device that shows the moisture level.

This is the second soil meter I ordered. The first from another company, would not read the PH of the soil That was the main reason I ordered it. I have moved to a new area and wanted to know if it was alkaline or acid. I had planted several Encore azaleas which were not doing too well. We had an early hard freeze here in AR so that had to contribute, but they need acid soil. When I tested, I found that it tested 7. They do well in 5.5-6. I have used the acid Azalea fertilizer on them, regardless of the fact that they are to be fertilized after blooming. If they don't get some help, they will be dead, not blooming. At least in my case, I found the life of this instrument to be about 3 years. In the last year or so, I used it only to check moisture content. Recently when I went to switch to the other options, I found the switch to be frozen or stuck on moisture. Finally, it doesn't give correct moisture readings.

I now use this first before I water my plants. I had one that looked like it was in need of water, but it was over watered. I found another one that I thought had enough but it needed more water. It comes with a list of plants on the back of the package so don't discard it. I had to look up plant names because they are not all listed under the name we know them as.

I bought this for my wife. We were both very busy at the time and failed to check the gadget when it came in. When my wife first tried it, she thought she was doing something wrong because nothing was happening. She tried several times on later days, but still no activity on the needle. She told me about her experience, but it took me several days before I had an opportunity to test the meter. Indeed, nothing happened on any function, under any conditions, following the package instructions to the T. Clearly, it had been DOA, but now the return window is closed. Moral of the story: check your purchases immediately upon arrival if you don't want to throw away your money.

I have some plants and trees that like acidic soil which requires soil amendments in my area. This tells me I’m on the right track as far as amount and type which is really all I bought it for. I’d prefer to pay more for some more features such as an app that records and tracks readings for different spots in your yard, etc. ... But at a minimum I wish it required batteries and kept the reading for a little bit after you pull it out of the ground so I don’t have to have my head on the ground to read it. But for what it is it works and is easier and more immediate than sending samples places.

I was pretty excited to have an easier way to check my soil PH so that I could know how adding compost and other amendments changed the soil. So I was also pretty disappointed to discover that the PH meter gave the same reading no matter what soil I put it in. I know for a fact that different beds and areas of our garden have different PH from sending samples to the extension agency and doing a home kit as well. I was able to return the product immediately for a full refund so that's a point for the company.

Ayer recibí el medidor y tan contenta con la compra, lo primero que hice fue irme al huerto y probarlo. Me resulto curioso y raro ver que el ph de mi suelo era super basico, fui probando en varios sitios y el valor del ph no cambiaba asi que lo meti en la compostera, aqui apenas se movio la aguja un milimetro.

great little rig, But took me awhile to figure the light out since Led Lights don't register and neither does florescent only incandescent rates off the charts. That's when I realized it doesn't register light, It registers the heat, which really sucks and feels like abit of a rip off... Other then that Works really well for moisture and Ph...

I bought this mainly to see the pH of our soil as we have just moved in to the property and planning to plant a tree and some annual flowering plants. I had it dipped into our plain water and then added a few cider vinegar to the cup of water to see if the dial will change. It did! And do the moisture level and tested it when his it from the sun and out. So I know this thing actually works well. Our soil is of hard and compact clay composition so we have to prepare the soil before inserting the metal rods so as not to bend them like what other users mentioned in their product review. I like it that it has a Readings chart guide! I think it’s a bonus x
