very useful, well documented

Very badly written. Consists mainly of not very interesting anecdotes about a very few maharajas and their interactions with the British in India. Nothing about the early history of the states and their rulers. Had I been able to sample a few pages (as one can in a bookshop) I would never have bought this book.
