A bit outdated
This book is a bit outdated. Some of the info is relevant today, the photos are pretty much useless.

The best, but still lacking
This is the most complete treatise covering the 10/22 that I have been able to find. While the 10/22 is a fairly simple rifle, there are a great many modifications that may be made. This book covers most of the modifications in a general sense and a few in detail. Those looking for an 'advanced' users manual will be elated. Those looking for something akin to Jerry Kunhausen's gunsmithing series will be disappointed. Excellent: The notes on maintenance and general 'sprucing up' of the action, as well as disassembly work. Disappointing: The trigger job information will improve the trigger in terms of creep, but not really reduce its' incredibly heavy pull. (The author simply states that new (pre-jobbed) hammers may be had at great expense. Overall, worth having if you're a 10/22 buff, but ripe to be replaced if someone wants to try.

Overall, relaay good 10/22 build up book
This book has some great concepts on some great ways to build up a Ruger 10/22 to a bad ass targer rifle. Most of the ideas will end up making a $200 rifle into a $1000+ .22 using the Nordic kit, and similar high end build kits. Then to add optics. They seem to be big fans of the Eotech sights, another $500 addition to a $200 gun. Long and short, if you have the resources (ie. money), to take a basic level gun to a way higher level, this a great book with alot of good ideas to follow or to use as a base for your own concept 10/22. It's got some really phenominal tacti-cool designs.

SERIOUS SHOOTERS - READ THIS!
Not only is this book surprisingly full of information about the Ruger 10/22, it includes a serious primer concerning the components of a long gun, types of manufacturing and machining and the resulting pros and cons for the serious shooter. This is not a do-it-yourself full-on gunsmith course, but is chock full of information on how to do intermediate work, specifically on the Ruger 10/22, and will provide a plethora of information for a moderately informed shooter.Knowledge of your firearm is generally necessary to get the most out of it or to improve it. This book goes a very long way toward fully informing the Ruger 10/22 owner of the various elements of the rifle, how to maintain it, and how to improve it.I am glad I got it!

A bit of a disappointment...
Actually, more than a bit. I was looking for an authoritative reference manual, but I got a summary of tweaks and idealogy about silencers as a great idea for pest control.Reading this book was clearly influenced by my having read "The Gun Digest Book of .22 Rimfire" by James E. House. There is simply no comparison between the two books. Admittedly, the House book is more general in that it covers a wide range of rimfire firearms and does not go into great "tweak" detail. That focus was left to House's new book "Customized the Ruger 10/22" which I should be receiving from Amazon on August 25, 2006.If House's book on customizing the 10/22 is anywhere near as complete and smartly written as his ".22 Rimfire" book turned out to be, then buying the "Ultimate Ruger 10/22 Manual and User's Guide" will be less valuable than it turned out to be.

Very informative.
Very informative book. The only complaint I have is the lack of clarity of the photos. They were in areas of detail and I found it difficult to see what they were showing. Otherwise, this is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to know more about the 10/22.

Almost great
For the $15 and change from Amazon to your mail box, it is a reasonable value. For anyone that has not been in the middle of the Ruger 10/22 action, it is good. If it had two more pictures that I found on the internet, it would border on very good. The author's (M. White) opinions on bullet stability vs velocity are inconsistent with results I have obtained at the shooting range. He also seems bent on flaunting his class what ever it is FFL and that he can have/manufacture silencers. Unnecessary.

Excellent book for the individual who really wants to explore and change any or all components on his Ruger 10/22. If that is you, then you should own this book. Numerous photos which are BW not color.

Excellent handbook for the Ruger 10/22
If like me you have a 10/22 without a manual from buying second hand, this books provides a great overview of care for the gun, and how to set it up, and improve it. Although obviously aimed at the American market (like so many of these publications), that does not detract from the wealth of information it provides, and it is a valuable addition to any shooters library.
