Comfortable Crochet Socks: Perfect-fit Patterns for Happy Feet

Print is very small.
Comfortable Crochet Socks By Sascha Blase-Van Wagtendonk is a very pretty well constructed 125 page book. The book's print is small, and makes reading the pattern cumbersome. The print is also rather light or faded. The patterns seem to be rather hard to follow, because they were written in Dutch and then translated into English. Looking closer at the pictures of the finished socks I noticed that the socks has spacing between each stitch, because a US size G hook is used to make gauge. The proper size hook for sock yarn is US size C/D crochet hook. I would send this book back, but "my bad" for not looking into this book further before hitting the purchase tab. This is the second crochet book that I had purchased with small print from Stackpole Books. (It may be the preferred print size from this publishing company.)

Size range was disappointing
The sock patterns are easy enough to follow for the most part, but only two of the ten patterns go up to size large. The other 8 go from baby sizes through medium (men's shoe size 10). I got the book to make socks for my dad, and now 4/5ths of the patterns aren't useful. It would really have been nice to know that before I bought it.

Truly comfy socks, have to adapt for larger sizes
I borrowed this from the library and have made four pairs of socks so far. The two people I've given them to both rave about them, so this is there first crochet sock I've found that's actually comfortable. Hurray!I docked a star because the adult pattern size ranges are weirdly limited. And it's important to get the fit right since crochet is not as stretchy as knitting. However, once you get the hang of the base pattern used for all the socks, you can scale it up to the foot size you need based on the size chart at the start of the book and foot size measurements online (or if you measure the person you're making them for). For example, for a woman friend with size 7 wide feet, I used the medium pattern for setting the width and the small pattern for creating the length. If you don't mind doing the math for the main three variables (toe/heel width, foot length, and calf length), it's very doable. And the patterns ARE fun and easy to work up once you get the hang of them.

Very disappointing
This book is definitely not worth the money! Not many patterns and the sizes are ridiculous. I would send it back, however, I bought the Kindle edition.
