Lone Survivor [4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital HD]

This is a good movie, but an extremely sad one. It is also MORE than a Movie. This is as real as it gets. The decision these 4 heroic men chose was the most moral, Christian, courageous and sacrificial one that they shouldn't have had to vote on. They have their codes and are the most honorable men in every day life, this is above and beyond. This is also very personal to me, because I know a man just like them. They had a mission, and it was for our country and the 20 Marines murdered the week before ~ something that has been left out of all of the many reviews I've read thus far. If the Americans would stand behind them And Not Forget everybody wanted us over there IMMEDIATELY after 911 ~ they'd have been able to do what they knew should be done to begin with. They Shouldn't have let them live and didn't have to, but our Sick Media and all of the Ignorant Americans were the cause of their decision. They knew making it out was slim to known. It WASN'T 40 Tali's, it was closer to 150 to 200 of them and they would've cut their heads off if they had the opportunity. Americans would have been outraged with them, but had they killed them and saved their own lives ~ they'd have been CRUCIFIED BY THIS COUNTRY. They were basically "Lambs Led to Slaughter," for a lack of a better way to put it. Marcus Luttrell was a hero then, and he is a hero every time he wakes up. He tells this story over and over to Honor his Lost Brothers. And he re-lives it everyday. He went to see all of their family members as soon as he was able to ~ look their mothers and wives in the eye to tell them they didn't suffer. He couldn't tell them everything that went on up there on that mountain. My heart aches for him and always will. The movie is Authentic because he was involved with the making of it, as it should have been. He's in more than one scene in the movie too. He also had real SEALS come on the set to make sure it was real. The movie was long, but for those who haven't read the book and doesn't know anyone involved in actual parts of this will never be able to fathom the length it would've been, nor how much worse it truly was for them. Everyone that watches this, definitely needs to read the book. And for those who have compared this movie to Platoon is living in La La Land. If it were to be compared to any movie, it would be Black Hawk Down and the 160th SOAR helicopter pilot Michael Durant who wrote the book about it. And the 2 Delta Force men who gave their lives to save him (and acknowledged that was probably going to happen). EVERYONE needs to remember this is REAL LIFE NOT JUST AN AWESOME MOVIE. I have a to say my heart and prayers go out to all of them everyday. Also, after seeing the movie, Axes mother went up to the actor and thanked him for giving her a couple of more hours with her son & I've seen an interview with Her & listened to it come out of her mouth with tears running down her face. I cannot put my name on this, but I would if it were possible. Thank you Marcus for showing us what is Real Honor, what a Real Man is, what a SEAL is and what Our Country Means to You. And I thank the village for standing up for him,as well as saving him. That is Real a Honor and Courage that most people Do Not Have. Think about these things as you watch his movie and read his book. My thanks goes to the actors for doing such a great job, and it shows it wasn't all about the money they made to do the film. ***By the way, he wasn't in the village when the Rangers got to him ~ Read the book***

While I never write reviews covering summaries and opinions on acting, I must say that this is one of the most realistic, incredible movies I have seen in a very long time. Much more so than even 'Saving Private Ryan'. That said, let's move on to the actual quality of the Blu Ray itself. I do not have the Standard Def version so this is not a comparison. VIDEO QUALITY.... You would be hard pressed to get a better transcode to Blu Ray than what is found here. Color grading is absolutely natural with no artificial coloration at all. It seems that when any movie takes place in the mid Eastern countries they always apply an overly warm, almost golden color to the footage, which is not the way things appear in the mid East. Coloration is spot on and realistic in every scene. There is nothing artificial about the blues of the sky, the greens of the forest or skin tones. Small details found in hair, rocks and the leaves & branches of the trees are easily discernible. At no time did I see any artifacting or aliasing ; and stair stepping ,which easily may have been created among the boulders and rocks, was no where to be seen. In the darker scenes, details were not crushed beyond recognition. The average Mbps rate appeared to be in the low 30's depending upon the scene and whether it was more or less active or static. 5 Stars easily. AUDIO QUALITY.... Totally demo worthy in so many parts of the film. Absolutely excellent audio editing with a tremendous amount of discreet directionality throughout the film to all the speakers in your surround system. This was not just the occasional panning of helicopters from the front to rear surrounds but appropriate directional foley fx scattered throughout the entirety of the movie. The lossless 5.1 DTS HD MA audio,( which really should and could have been a 7.1 audio track) provided clean and transparent dialogue no matter what the audio background was playing and levels were absolutely stable. Your LFE sub channel will get more than its share of work to do and it will go to some pretty deep bottom end reproduction. You will be completely immersed in the audio. No question...5 stars on the audio. EXTRAS.... There are several high quality extras on this Blu Ray disc covering the training the actors had to go through, what and how they learned to do things, interviews with the actors that were insightful and interesting and also footage of how the stunts were done, which I really enjoyed watching. The extras go far beyond a simple and standard 'Making of' type of extra. Also included are interviews with the parents of those who were killed and a short film regarding each of those real life heroes, what made them who they were and another feature on the training of those who strive to become a Navy Seal. Finally, there is a short extra on the Pashtun Code of Life which focused upon the Afghanistan individual who saved the last member of the Red Wing team. He and the Seal he saved, are both on film many times. Additionally, the Digital UV disc allowed me to download the film to my iTunes which I always prefer over Ultra Violet. This time, redeeming it was pretty quick and easy. All and all, this is a great Blu Ray disc to add to your collection. I do hope that this review has been of some help to you in your purchasing decisions. Thanks for reading.

This is a very good movie. About navy seals on a mission that didn’t go as planned. Mark Wahlberg is extremely talented and plays a great role in this movie.

Item as described, good quality, works great

I read the book "Lone Survivor" before seeing the movie. It was excellent. Action-packed, dramatic, sad, stirring story about four Navy Seals on a surveillance op that went bad. Since it was a first-hand account by the Lone Survivor himself, Marcus Luttrell, the real story with lots of detail is told. The movie is a very good adaptation of the book, one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. It was also one of the most realistic action movies I've ever seen. The scenes of the Seals tumbling down the side of a very steep mountain in Afghanistan were absolutely realistic, so much so that I wondered if I was seeing real people or dummies. I really couldn't tell. If stunt people did those scenes, I don't know how they kept from breaking their bodies. I saw Luttrell and Wahlberg doing an interview on a youtube video and they talked about real explosives being used. I believe it. The acting was top-notch and the actors who played the Seals bore a strong resemblance to the real guys. The only thing objectionable in the film is that the "F" word is uttered about every 10 seconds (or it seemed like it.) I usually won't watch movies with a lot of foul language but I made an exception for this one, because the story is true, and I think it's important we know what actually goes on when our troops are put in harm's way. Luttrell has a few cameo shots, and one I particularly noticed has him sitting as one of a squadron of men listening to an officer... When he mentions the "rules of engagement", the real Luttrell just shakes his head and looks down. He had much to say about that in the book. So all in all, both the book and movie are excellent, and I recommend them if you can overlook the language.

Factual story of Bravery, True Honor stating Semper Fi with deep meaning. Deeply moving on all sides! Powerful film showing true war and combat. I'm not sure if saying "Thank you for your service" is appropriate for what our soldiers (men & woman) endure! This film gives true meaning of any war, what four (4) men fought for and three losing their lives in a most heinous brutality by the hands of other humans; fighting for what we individually believe in...that is the bottom line. There are no awards offer for the sacrifice of our soldiers which offer combat relief: yet this film shows the true reality. Great Film, well acted and bloody fighting is surreal.

I won't give any spoilers, I mean the title already tells you what to expect, rather I won't break down scenes and actor performance; the main point I would like you to take away is that this movie moved me to embarrassment more than any other emotion. Not embarrassment for the film or acting or the killing and in your face war action, rather, embarrassment that I have ever complained or griped or stressed over small things. These SEALS and their accompanying sister service personnel who lost their lives in this battle deserve the greatest respect ever. This is just one battle, think of how many more there have been through this country's history. This movie gives you a small idea of the brotherhood that is the military, and especially in the special ops forces such as SEALS. One of the best parts of the movie is the development and explanation of their team as a brotherhood. It also should leave you with a sense of your complete lack of the need to ever complain again or feel like you have it hard for the little stuff we take for granted each day once you've seen what their ordeal encompassed. This movie tells a story of some heroic people who suffered again and again and simply would not give up, didn't know what that even meant. Take a moment after watching and use their motivation and this story to give greater respect to our Active Duty and Veterans and see to it that your voice is heard to the audacious and disrespectful leadership at the civilian level in this country who can't seem to ensure that military are taken care of on all levels, from pay to perks, to whatever they want. Especially those who have lived through battles like this. Let this movie give you the spark to step away from the awe and worship of the pro athlete/musician/band that this country falls over themselves for, and put that respect, admiration and financial backing to the heroes and their families who have lived through, or perished in ordeals such as this. These guys were E5 and E6 mainly, with a couple officer ranks, and you should look those up as to what they are paid for that day of hell, and ultimately the loss of their life. Great movie, puts you in the fight, understand their hardship throughout, and even greater window into how truly dedicated and perseverant these guys were.

Mark Wahlberg does justice to this movie, as well as the other actors. The beginning of the film shows what men go through to become a Navy SEAL. There’s never a dull moment and the action scenes are so realistic. I appreciate the stuntmen who had to endure being blown off the sides of the mountains. The little boy who helped Marcus Luttrell (Wahlburg) was a star too. Although there was a language barrier, he felt for the badly wounded American, eventually retrieving a knife instead of a duck. The moment rescue came in and Marcus hugged the boy kissing him on the head was so very touching. I paid full price for the movie and glad I did. I’ve watched it no less than two dozen times. At the end of the film tribute is paid to all killed in the original team and those who went to rescue them. Bravo and hooray to our brave soldiers. Highly, highly recommended.

This is 1 of my favourite movies & the firefights are unbelievable & to know the true story it’s insane what Danny Axe Mikey & Marcus went thru that day ( week for Marcus ) Imo it’s the best firefight ever put to film for realism, Heat is the best Shootout / heist This is a great buy , Amazing value , has extras & at such a cheap price!! Film costruito sul senso dell'onore , da parte chi ha scelto un mestiere , quello delle armi , dove ci si contra spesso tra dovere e coscienza . E infatti la scena che segna la svolta in negativo per i protagonisti ruota proprio su ciò che è moralmente lecito compiere in guerra oppure no . Cosa su cui si sono scritte tonnellate di pagine , spesso senza aver mai dovuto compierla , quella scelta .... Amaro , quindi , come soggetto , eppure mai triste , anche nella morte e nel combattimento , apparentemente , senza speranza , dei protagonisti , emerge sempre una consapevolezza di ciò che si è e rispetto nella scelta effettuata . Rispetto anche nei confronti dell'avversario , per quanto possibile , e della popolazione locale , vista ,una volta tanto , non come sfondo ... ma come parte in causa e casus belli ... Ottima l'interpretazione dei protagonisti e ancora una volta il cinema americano ci insegna l'importanza del casting .. non c'è un attore , anche in piccoli ruoli , fuori parte .

"Lone Survivor" hat es nicht leicht in Deutschland. In unserem lokalen Kino wird er nur um 23 Uhr gezeigt und vermutlich ist es damit in der kommenden Woche auch schon wieder vorbei. Im Grunde passt für mich damit alles in den gewonnen Eindruck, dass man "sowas" einfach nicht sehen will. Die bisher in Magazinen gelesenen und via YouTube geschauten Filmkritiken, runden diesen Eindruck für mich nur noch ab. In einer Rezension klagt man doch tatsächlich über einen "zu großen Realismus". Es würde unglaublich viel geschossen und das sei nichts für zarte Gemüter, denn, und jetzt kommt's, es sei furchtbar laut. :) Crazy s***, isn't it? Entschuldigt meinen Sarkasmus, aber das brennt schon arg. Mag Krieg als Unterhaltungstheater mit ausreichendem historischen Abstand noch akzeptabel erscheinen, wenn man letztlich die Kurve hin zum "Anti-Kriegsfilm" meistert, so vermag diese Nacherzählung von Geschehnissen aus der nahen Vergangenheit dann wohl doch ein wenig zu sehr ein mulmiges Gefühl im Magen zu erzeugen. Vielleicht sogar verbunden mit der Reflektion der eigenen Haltung zu Themen, wie den Afghanistanfeldzug oder eine Konfliktbewältigung mit Hilfe des Krieghandwerks im Allgemeinen? So ein Film passt einfach nicht ins Einerlei des Kinoprogramms und darum, so meine bescheidene Meinung, lässt man Ungediente, Pazifisten und sonstige Uninteressierte ihre Meinung kundtun. Was auch ok ist, aber letztlich dem Film nicht gerecht wird. Lone Suvivor soll nicht als Anti-Kriegsfilm taugen? Wer nach dem Streifen noch mit Hurra zur Front rennt, sollte zwingend in Behandlung. Übertriebener Pathos und typisch amerikanische Heroisierung? Ganz ehrlich, da darf man mal genauer hinschauen. Ich war jedenfalls angenehm überrascht über das gefundene Maß. Klar feiern sich die SEALs. Aber das beschränkt sich auf ihren Mikrokosmos und es ist in unserer KSK oder anderen Spezialeinheiten auf dem Globus sicher auch nicht anders. Wenn diese Männer einander ihr Leben anvertrauen und einen derart riskanten Job ausfüllen, kann man als Filmbetrachter gut glauben, dass einen die Ausbildung und das Einsatzleben zusammenschweißt und dass einem der Kamerad näher ist als jeder Verwandte. Brüder. Und wo liegt hier das Problem? Ich konnte im Film keinen triefenden Patriotismus ausmachen. Überhaupt hat mich der Streifen in vielen Dingen, die mich sonst immer gestört haben, sehr positiv überrascht. Die SEALs werden hier nicht als "Überkrieger" porträtiert. Es sind ganz normale Männer. Sie bluten, sie schwitzen, sie weinen und sie verlieren die Nerven. Nicht aufzugeben, stattdessen zu kämpfen und dabei vielleicht zu scheitern oder eben auch zu überleben. Eben diesen Weg beschreibt die Geschichte des Films. Klar, die Story ist schnell erzählt. Aber hey, was wird hier auch sonst erwartet? Es geht um eine Militäroperation. Solche Unternehmungen sind selten von enormen Tiefgang geprägt. Interessant sind die Botschaften die sich zwischen den Zeilen und manchmal auch einfach in einem Gesichtsausdruck wiederfinden. By the way... die Besetzung ist super gelungen. Die Schauspieler machen den Verstorbenen alle Ehre. Lone Survivor macht vieles besser als andere Filme dieses Genre. Nie hat man als Zuschauer das Gefühl, als hätte das vierköpfige Team auch nur den Hauch einer Chance im Kampf gegen die Übermacht. Die SEALs verbrauchen zusehens ihre Munition, während sie verzweifelt versuchen ihren Widersachern zu entweichen, ihre Wunden und Schmerzen auszublenden, ihre Ängste im Zaum und ihren Verstand wach zu halten. Einer von vier schafft es letztlich und das auch nur mit der Hilfe von Fremden. Eine Geschichte die das Leben schrieb und die uns Dank Marcus Luttrell erzählt werden konnte. Sicherlich hat Hollywood seine Zutaten beigefügt, aber der "zu große Realismus" tut gut und wird dem Anliegen des Lone Survivors hoffentlich gerecht. Man leidet mit den Akteuren. Die Kameraführung ist einfach nur beeindruckend. Die Stürze tun schon weh, bei bloßer Betrachtung. Klar fragt man sich, wer nach sowas noch aufsteht ;) Aber darüber konnte ich dann doch hinwegschauen, denn der Film tut insofern gut, als dass er nicht die bekannten Fehler macht, die man aus zahlreichen anderen Produktionen kennt. Weder kommen die US-Streitkräfte als unfehlbar und unschlagbar davon, noch werden die Afghanen als ein Volk von verblendeten, zurückgebliebenen Agressoren dargestellt. Der Film stellt sehr wohl fest, dass in den Gewändern der Einheimischen nicht ein und der selbe Geist lebt. Stolz, Mut und Tradition der Afghanen finden ihren Platz in der Erzählung. Mich hat es ferner überzeugt, dass selbst die Hauptfigur nicht als unfehlbar verkauft wird. Er hat mit Angst, eigenen Vorurteilen und seiner Rage in einer scheinbar ausweglosen Situation zu kämpfen. Am Ende bringt ihn die amerikanische Übermacht aus der Gefahrenzone doch sein Leben verdankt er seinen Brüdern und nicht zuletzt einem Fremden, der wohl größte Held in dieser Geschichte und der ist dabei "nicht einmal Amerikaner" ;) Danke für diesen Film. Hat gut getan.
