You'll probably need a lot more than 48 hrs for the smell to go away!
We've had our mattress for about 2 1/2 weeks, now, and we've been sleeping on it nightly for a little over a week. I'm retired from the military with lung damage, and I'm very sensitive to chemicals and many allergens. The smell when we first opened the bed was almost overwhelming. For me, it's a very strong, sour, rubbery smell that causes my throat to burn and my sinuses to flare up. Once we carried it upstairs and opened it, I was immediately worried. But, everyone said we'd need to let it rest for 48 hours before sleeping on it, so I was hoping it would improve. By the evening of the next day, it was better, but I could tell that 48 hours wouldn't be enough, so I opened the windows in our bedroom, put two fans in the windows to move a lot of air, and it was significantly better, the next day. It wasn't enough for me, and my wife could still smell it, too, but I could at least lay on it, and I could tell the effort would be worth it.My wife slept on it with a quilt as a mattress pad (the bamboo cover isn't really enough, and she decided the mattress was too firm). (We both got extremely hot, sleeping on the quilt, but we haven't felt that way, since we got a topper and ditched the quilt. This may be the reason some people feel hot: heavy mattress pads.) I took a nap on it and agreed, and we picked up a 3" topper (Sleep Studio 3-Inch ViscO2). By the time it arrived, the mattress had off-gassed some more, and I'd left the windows open twice more for long periods, and I'd tried the bed for a longer period. The topper had a strong odor, too, but it was treated with Tea Tree Oil, which helped open up my chest and sinuses, the first few nights, when I was still having trouble. That was nice. For those who are curious, even after 2 1/2 weeks, I can still smell a slight odor, but I'm not having problems breathing, and I don't have sinus issues. The Tea Tree Oil in the topper has made a world of difference, but it doesn't mask the odor from the mattress.Sleeping on it: I'm 6'5", 275-280 lbs, a weightlifter and high school coach. My wife is 5'11" and full-figured, but not overweight. We've had several high-end spring mattresses (Queen, we decided to make the jump to California King with this purchase) that would eventually sag, and the pillow tops would compress. We have a low wood frame with something like 2 dozen wide, wood slats, topped by the mattress, with the VicsO2 topper on top. I found the frame and mattress to be incredibly supportive. I was okay with the firmness of the mattress. It was just a tad firmer than I would like, but my wife found it too firm, by far (note we'd had pillow-top mattresses for years), so we ordered the topper. Once I put it all together and re-made the bed, it was over. I'm notorious for reading in bed for quite a while (often an hour or more), before going to sleep. I thought it was because I couldn't wind down from a busy day. Now, I think it's because I couldn't get comfortable! I've been reading the same book for almost two weeks, now, and I've read most of it on the couch, with a cup of coffee! Once I go to bed, now, I am out within a couple of minutes. I have to make a strong effort to stay awake, if I have to do something on my phone or laptop.Pillows: I've seen few people mention pillows, but my wife and I both found the mattress/topper combo so supportive of the pillows that we were immediately uncomfortable with our old, extra-firm pillows. They raise your head too high, and are extremely uncomfortable for your neck and upper back! It was like having your body sink down, and your head help up. We've tried soft microfiber pillows that squish down to an inch thick or so, and they seem to be working pretty well.Overall, our sleep quality is MUCH better, and it has been worth the effort. Of course, we'd tried various foam and inflatable-type mattresses prior to buying, so we had a good idea what we liked and what we should buy. You'll need to force air through the room for most of that 48 hours, if you want to sleep on it as soon as possible, if you are at all sensitive to strong odors or chemical smells. Otherwise, you may want to plan on a couple of extra days for it to air out. Even with the extra layers of foam in the 12" mattress, you may still find it quite firm, so go ahead and look at memory foam toppers, too. That way, if you need one, you already have it picked out. Finally, you'll probably want to experiment with pillows to find new ones that work with the bed. Also, don't forget you'll need sheets with extra-deep pockets, if you stack a 12" mattress and a 3" topper (and yes, ours did expand to almost exactly 12"!).

Great bed, killer price
10/02/2011 - I must've read over 200 reviews when looking to purchase a new mattress and decided t go with the temperpedic. I have slept on very expensive temperpedic beds and knew that it was worth it for me to get one. I was on a budget and hoping to get more bang for my buck. I have a sleep disorder and DO NOT sleep well. I am a light sleeper and will wake from noise or movement in the bed, etc. I waited to write this review after sleeping on it for approximately 3 weeks. I have uploaded my images to this page. I ordered it and with prime membership paid $3.99 for next day shipping. It arrived in a box that i was able to get upstairs with some help (here's no handles on box, it's awkward and weighs 50-70lbs). I opened box carefully and carefully removed plastic liner. I had purchased two sheets of heavy duty plywood ($20 a sheet from Home Depot and they cut it for me). I used the wood to create a platform base on my Queen bed frame (see uploaded pictures). After unrolling mattress and placing it on wood, t was not a full 12inches yet, but it was already fluffing up to 9inches. There was minimal odor. I left overhead fans on and windows open for 1 day. Next day my boyfriend and I slept on it. I didn't even notice him toss or turn. I know it's not the same as a $2,000 to $5,000 temperpedic, but it is damn close enough for me. It feels great and I am sleeping like a dream. My boyfriend and mother were impressed with price, quality and ease of set up and shipping. After reading reviews, I chose this bed because it had the least amount of negative feedback. I am someone who has used pillowtop mattresses in the past, I do not like a super firm mattress. I think this is a nice mix of support, but comfort. My boyfriend and I usually differ some in our mattress taste, but he likes this one. He doesn't even feel me get out of bed in the morning before him. I don't notice if he gets up either. The bamboo cover sheet protector is nice so I didn't buy a separate mattress cover. I took several pictures from tie I received it, to set up, they are uploaded and should be able to help give you a visual of what to expect. If your looking for bang for your buck and great night's sleep, then I would highly suggest this mattress.02/20/2012 - UPDATE - I still really love this bed. I sleep really well on it. It felt a bit softer now after a few months worth of use. I just asked my fiance his thoughts for an update. He said he liked it, then didn't and now likes it again. He has been slow to adjust to the temperpedic feel, but does like it. Our only complaint? We wish we got a King size! Still very happy at almost 7 months in.

We love it & don't think we would ever go back ...
Wow! We ordered this a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday. It arrived on the following Wed. & after placing it right on top of our old box spring so it could expand over 48 hours, we slept on it the Friday night. We love it & don't think we would ever go back to the other mattress types. The sale price was unbelievable & made the purchase even sweeter. It has a firmness to it & yet you feel that little soft squishiness against every contour of your body. I heard it was best for side or back sleepers but I also love the times I sleep on my stomach as well. As stated in other reviews; it took 48 hours to be fully expanded & it is a good idea to place it right where you want it. Glad it fit our old box spring. There was a slight odour which lessoned each night for about a week. Wonderful product! Fast service & cool packaging.

Overall alright, Good price, medium softness. Heavy
Thank goodness they deliver to my door. Because of the 12 inch format, its almost impossible for 1 person to carry it, unlike other foam matresses Ive previously bought which were much smaller sized. Even if you can lift the weight the sheer size make it impossible. Have a helper ready if you have stairs.TESTEDPROS: After opening 24 hrs, i put it in the bed and tested it. The smell wasn't too obvious, it's comfortable, the quality feels expensive, medium hardness. I could prefer a firmer bed having sleep on seahorse boxsprings for 20 years, But this was still OK. Finally, its abit cooler than regular foam.Only CON: When you shift weight on 1 spot, the bed quickly sink until I almost fall out, maybe its a problem with all Foam beds. It's not bad if I sleep evenly on the bed, but becomes soft whenever I focus my weight on 1 or 2 spots. It might be problematic if you have 2 heavy weight adults conducting " nocturnal exercise ".

Almost a year and still love it!
It's been almost a year since I bought the bed and still absolutely love it!!It took me a lot of research and dedication to find the right bed and with the right price and timing, I found this one and was on the fence about it but for around $350 I couldn't go wrong. After receiving the mattress there was an door that disappeared within the next month or so.Now that I have had it for almost a year, it's still in great condition even after a move to a new house. I'd suggest getting a mattress cover for it if you have children, are accident prone, or if you happen to get an illness and sweat a ton during the night/sickness, the mattress absorbs some of the moisture so be aware of that. There is no dents or unevenness to the mattress, although I am only 140lbs, I have taken the time to rotate it clockwise twice now so it gets even distribution of use and weight. I'd purchase a mattress from this company again in a heart beat. Again, so very satisfied with this purchase and to be honest I figured I'd wait at least 6 months before I wrong a thorough review.Thank you!

it's supportive yet very comfortable, so glad I ordered plush
I give this mattress 4 stars for two reasons (a) the mattress was lost for a week and (b) after waiting for 48hrs for it to expand, it reached 11" not 12" as advertised. As for comfort, it is 5 star, no question. This is my first memory foam mattress and it has greatly exceeded my expectations for comfort. Word of caution to anyone considering memory foam, plush is the way to go. It is not soft so that you sink in and are unable to move, it's supportive yet very comfortable, so glad I ordered plush.Amazon customer support was amazing, the issue was entirely with the shipping company.

The warranty is a lie to those outside the U.S
I've had this mattress since 2013 and when I first got it the thing was the most comfortable bed I'd ever had. That lasted only about 2 years though as since then a giant sag has formed in the center of the mattress making it quite hard on the back to sleep on. Not to mention if you have two people in the bed the dip will just make you both roll into each other which isn't nearly as great as it might sound. So when I went to make a claim on that "25 year warranty" that I bought off amazon.CA, they told me that the warranty is only available to those within the continental United States. So basically a flat out lie to anyone not living in the U.S which is enough for me to never buy from them again personally. Long and the short about this mattress though? It's great at first and surely will keep being great for those that can actually make a warranty claim, but if you do not live in the U.S then find another mattress to buy. This thing won't stay as comfy as it was when you first bought it for more than a couple years, so do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
