Brake cleaner is ideal because it removes anything greasy but doesn't leave behind a residue. You wouldn't want oil residue on your rotors or anything else, because your vehicle would be dangerous to drive until it burned off. Gunk is a good brand, I was able to remove old caliper grease very easily. I will buy this next time.

I used this last time I replaced brake pads/rotors. It works pretty well. It sprays with quite a bit of pressure, which works well for cleaning dirt and debris off brake calipers. For a normal brake job (all 4 tires) you can definitely get away with one bottle, but you might want to buy two as it goes pretty quickly.
