C-47/R4D Skytrain Units of the Pacific and CBI

Osprey Aircraft of the Aces, Aviation Elite Units, Combat Aircraft ...

Excellent book on the C-47.
Enjoyed this book from Osprey very much, some of the books in the Osprey series can be a bit boring/nothing new but I learnt quite a bit from this book. It details USAFF, marines and navy use of the C-47 in the south West Pacific, new Guinea, Philippines and CBI, including paratrooper drops, arieal resupply and transport missions. There are 30 profiles and scale drawings of a C-47A although this is in 1/96th I would have liked to have seen some more maybe of a C-53? Recommended to all especially anyone interested in Dakotas.

Great Pictures and Stories that bring history to life
I am not an avid aviation follower, but I was very interested in the history of the C-47/R4D. I found out many interesting facts and historical references in this book. I am still reading over some of text. My cousin flew this plane in WW11; and was lost in New Guinea. He was a Captain in the Army Air Corp. This book gave me a historical reference concerning his mission.

C-47/R4D Skytrain Units of the Pacific and CBI
Very interesting book that gives an overview of the operations of the C47 type in these theaters of the war, one glaring mistake is a cockpit shot that is clearly a four engined aircraft with a different windsheild (I think a B24) Would have been interesting to add some detail of any known Japanese L2D "Tabby" (Japanese DC3) operations in the area at the same time to give an interesting comparison. That said however I would recomend this book to anyone interested in the DC3/C47/R4D in general and their operation in this part of the war in particular.Greg King
