Best writer in this genre. Never thought I would read a book without Bosch but it’s a master piece.

I like rain. But if I am asked to walk miles while thunder, lightning and downpour slashes the night, would I enjoy it?I don't think so.This hard hitting novel is quintessential Connelly. It's grim, convoluted, relentless, and full of big and small tussles continually threatening to tear the story apart...! The only thing, resembling the heavy-duty engine of a lumbering truck, keeps the story straight and reasonably narrow, is the beautiful prose. It was sparse yet lyrical, poignant yet brutal.And the story was not just dark. It was personal!I enjoyed the ride. But I don't think another ride would be appealing that much to me. You see, the mystery, comparable with rain, was alright.It's the darkness and cold that I found rather overbearing.Recommended, with caution. This is a compelling read, but it wouldn't be pretty.

Brilliantly written, an absolute page turner. I re-read this book after many years so it felt like reading a new book all over again
