can this be used for soda or other carbonated drinks?

I do not think I would use it for soda or other carbonated drinks...except on short term. I use this thermos for my grandson to take water to school, though I prefer stainless steel. However, his new school requires plastic water bottles. If you put soda in one, make sure to open the spout and have the child drink it within a certain amount of time.

Even though it says 16 oz, does a little more fit like an entire 16.9 oz water bottle contents?

No because was you scree the lid back the pressure with in from air displacement with cause the liquid to over flow.

Can the bottom part of this bottle put in microwave to warm up water?

I would not do this. The bottle has a warning that it is not designed for hot liquids.
