Review: Test Unit for Shark HD5 (HD510) - I love my Shark HD5 CNC (HD510) but before I buy a 4th axis, which I would build or buy a generic one since NW is way over priced, I wanted to make sure I had good control over the 4th axis card I added and could find and jog what I believe to be the right motor. This worked. Searching posts I found enough info to select this one and wire a DB9 to the flying leads. This motor worked great as a test unit and I will now buy my 4th axis from desertcart. I can throw this motor into my spare parts bin or retrofit the lathe I like to accept this motor if the one that comes with is not quite right for my driver card. You assume all risk if you go this route but once you understand the important specifications you need, this would be a good way to test things out. There is some info I can't find on the Shark so I will have to experiment with things like gear ratio, and if have to either change the position of the physical motor or change it in software, but this helped with the learning curve.

**Q: The spec sheet says 3.2 vdc, is this right since some say they are hitting it with 24vdc.**
A: I don't know about 24V but personally I run it at 12V and it runs fine. Where do you find a driver with 3.2 VDC anyway?

**Q: does it work with  MB450A Driver?**
A: Yes, that is the driver I use with thi s motor.

**Q: What is the max RPM?**
A: I'm not sure.  Steppers are more usually used for precise movements than for speed, and the maximum speed most mostly reflects the maximum frequency and minimum microstep ratio of the driver.  I doubt it exceeds 1000 rpm, if that high.

**Q: I am planning on using this to move 100 lbs down a rack pinion track while supporting the weight with bearing carriages on rails. Will this do that?**
A: You need to know your desired maximum acceleration, static and dynamic friction and gear ratio. Or find some way of estimating it from similar applications you can find data for, or ask on reddit :)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong, capable motor.

It has been working really well on my project. Using a TMC5160 motor driver on Stealth hope mode, I have been able to get it up to a bit over 13 revolutions per second under load before it stalled and the motor remained very quiet throughout. I did have to add some heat sinks and some fans to cool the motor though. The motor got up to 80°C while running at 7 RPS under a small load and started warping some things, but the fans and heat sink have brought this to around 40°C.
