I was looking for a book on 70's fashion
And I got it.I was pleasantly surprised with the shots from nightclubs, and of celebrities, and of streetwear. You can clearly see the start of 80's fashion in 79 and I found it fascinating how you could easily tell what part of the 70's the item of clothing was from. Bleeding over from the 60's, and then the start of punk and new wave that became such a huge part of the 80's and 90's.I did find it eye opening, that many photographs were of "celebrities" I'd never heard of. As in, their star faded so quickly/ they partied so hard they passed away before the mid eighties. Halston was a huge designer back then, and I don't think I'd heard his name until I saw him mentioned on Project Runway in the mid 2000's.I purchased this book because I've been getting more into 70's/80's fashion recently and I kept finding it really odd that a lot of clothing was made in the US or "Union Made" back then. There were all these California designers that kept popping up I had never heard of, even though I grew up in the Bay Area. What I got from this book is that youth and joy are sometimes fleeting. That the world and fashion are constantly changing, one day you're all the rage and the next day you're old news. But that fashion is cyclical. And some day it will come back around.

Truly Amazing
Once again Allan has knocked it out of the park. If you love New York this is the book for you. It's the kind of book that makes you want to catch the next flight to the city. The images are stunningly evocative and hark back to the high Times of the greatest city on earth. It's a masterclass in effortless style, when the great and the good walked the streets of Manhattan. When art and music came together to create a cultural revolution. Masterpiece!
