I purchased this as a present for my friend’s 5 year old son. Absolutely delightful book for elementary readers. A little boy who is squished to one-inch flat obviously suspends rules of logic and reality; on the other hand, the story and writing style allow the imagination some room to explore and delight. What a fun book tested by time (50 years) and enjoyed by my 7-year-old and me (77 years old). Highly recommend.

A classic read for an elementary school-age child, The best books survive the longest, and Flat Stanley is one of the best. Enjoy.

My 2nd grader is a little bookworm and loves to read to me. I am always on the lookout for easy to read chapter books that are also funny. I came across Flat Stanley. I have never read Flat Stanley either so both of us are able to enjoy it as he goes through. There are the perfect mix of more challenging words and easy words that he doesn't get discouraged or bored. The story is funny as well. I think Flat Stanley's adventures will definitely be added to our pile of books!!!

Though I was a keen reader as a child, few books ever really stuck in my memory through to adulthood. Now, with a family of my own, I have embarked upon that phase of 'you must do everything I did as a child'. I'm not sure whether it's nostalgia for me, or the belief that things were just so much better in my day, but my daughter has already been subjected to the likes of Bagpuss and Mr Benn, and is now enduring the books which I used to enjoy. Flat Stanley is the simple tale of Stanley Lambchop, an ordinary boy who has the misfortune to be squashed flat by a cork notice board. In adulthood, this does raise some serious questions, but for a five year old, there's just this acceptance that this is, of course, what would happen. Stanley's lack of a third dimension gives rise to a number of adventures - being lowered down a grate to retrieve his mother's ring, being used as a kite and saving on air-fare by being posted abroad. All of these things had stuck with me, despite it being over thirty years since I last read the book - and this from someone who often can't remember what he ate for breakfast. Thankfully, my daughter seemed to enjoy this book just as much as I did. I'm now off to find a copy of The Foxbusters...

Love this book. I used to use it as a grade 2 novel study. There were so many spinoffs from this story. We had Flat Stanleys travelling all over the world as students sent Flat Stanley around the world or took him on family trips and then reported back to the class with pictures.......it is a wonderful way to teach Geography, earthquake awareness, sibling rivalry and fact or fiction at this level. The kids were all engaged in the sharing of Flat Stanley's adventures. I've kept my lesson plans so now it is time to share this novel with friend's grandkids.......the cycle keeps on going.....and the fun never ends. Great starting point to have the students writing their own adventures as well.
