I think the rods were fine but the handling ruined them.
I bought two of these rods for a trip to Texas. Both showed up broken. The gel coat was split on both tips and one had a major chunk taken out of the handle. I ended up taking rods I already had and returned these. I have other ugly stick rods and they are fine, but I would not buy one of these sight unseen again from Amazon

Despite their toughness, these rods are surprisingly sensitive, allowing you to feel subtle bites while still having plenty of backbone when you need to lean into a fish. Great rod. Butt section is a bit too long for my preference.
Great surf rod. Super long, probably a little more than I need, but the extra length will help get bait further out. If anything, I feel like the butt section is too long. Not a huge deal, but I really think it could be taken down like an entire foot and it would be perfect. I may cut it down myself. Caught several bluefish, pompano, flounder, crabs, pufferfish, and redfish on it and it is in as great of condition as it was when I received it. It fishes.
