Even Thick Slices Of Perfect Toast
Love that this can toast thick slices of home made bread, bagels and buns, etc, as well as shop bought sliced bread easily. It is easy to use and the colour is even on both sides. You can lift it out to check it mid toasting, which is a nice feature that helps to make sure your toast is not being overdone. It's quite big but I'd expect that from a 4 slice toaster.Cleaning may be a bit annoying as the front is a mirrored stainless steel but it's easy to wipe away fingerprints with an e cloth.I am happy my research paid off and I have a good, robus toaster in the price bracket I wanted.

Controls should be more clearly marked - pop-up mechanism has now failed after 4 months!
May 2020The following two paragraphs were written when the toaster was new, but I'm now reporting that it has gone wrong in a dangerous way and is unusable. (The toast pops-up half way and sticks, but the heating elements remain on.) In the last six months this is the second Russell Hobbs toaster I've bought that has failed shortly after purchase - I won't be buying another one! My experience is that they are flimsy, cheaply made and not fit for purpose.December 2019£33 odd is a competitive price for a four-slot toaster. It looks reasonably smart, although the polished surfaces tend to stubbornly retain finger marks. The size of the slots is more than adequate for Hovis thick sliced white bread and other similar brands. Some reviews have commented that the slots are too small but that must be for large farmhouse style loaves which may well be too big for this and many toasters. One side of the toast tends to brown more than the other, though the difference is not excessive. The controls are a bit irritating as the knobs are black and don't have a white or coloured line to show where the setting is being made. there is an indentation, but you have to catch it in the right light to see where it is - all so unnecessary. The defrost and reheat buttons are also black in a black surround so you can't see where they are. They light up when you press them, and it's only then that you know whether you've pressed the right one. You get to know I suppose, but again it should be easier to read the controls. The toaster feels light in weight and the cradles within the slots seem a bit flimsy. It's worked fine so far, and time will tell whether it's robust enough to withstand the rigours of daily use.

Warburtons Bread DOES NOT FIT nicely
What use is a toaster that doesn't fit your favourite bread?Toaster slots are too short.Although, it does depend on the batch...Sometimes you get a shorter loaf, and it fits.Sometimes slices towards the ends of the load fit, but middle pieces don't.Sometimes the whole load fits, with a slight buckle.Maybe I'm just getting tall batches? If I was going to design a toaster, I'd find out what the largest bread is commonly available, and design for that PLUS SOME EXTRA. Sort yourselves out Russell Hobbs. You're a British manufacturer... design for British bread?

It toasts and it does it well!
Great toaster. Bought to replace one of similar size and function that was past its best. This one seems much better quality than the last one and it toasts very quickly and evenly. The slots seem to be the standard for this type of toaster, just big enough for a pan slice to fit lengthwise, without having to stand it on end and flip it half way through (If you prefer plain bread, best to go for a toaster with 2 long slots, rather than 4 shorter ones). The slots are wide too, bagels fit in nicely (cut in half obviously). The lift function is handy, to see how the toast or bagel is getting on so you can get it just right. Its also good for getting stuff out of the toaster without having to reach in. The top of the toaster does get rather hot, although that's to be expected. But again, the high lift keeps your fingers away from the hot metal.Great toaster that toasts well and seems to be great quality for the price.

Good Toaster but be sure to check your bread will fit!!!
Bought this as a replacement for the previous version of this toaster which, after 8 yrs, was starting to toast unevenly. The photo is my first run at toasting frozen bread (I will need to adjust the browning level!)As you can see it toasts very evenly however... the slices shown are of Hovis Granary Loaf and they are 10cm wide x 12cm high. This is the maximum size you can get in to this toaster and you will have to load the bread in 'landscape'. If you load in 'portrait' you will have 2cm of bread sticking above the toasting area.
