LOVED IT
5 stars✯✯✯✯✯I love, love, love, Alex and Poppy. Their personalities are completely opposite of each other but they fit together with each other so, so well. Alex is a complete homebody, he’s a total sweetheart; kind, generous, loves his family, will do anything for the person he loves and has a huge heart. Due to a family tragedy, he had to mature at a very young age and take care of the rest of his family. While Poppy is a wanderer who finds comfort with the people she meets during her vacations. She’s loud, wears loud clothes, and loves the things that Alex hates and despite their obvious differences they share a very intimate and close friendship and care deeply for each other. All of the characters in this book are incredibly strong even the ones we meet briefly. All their voices seem extremely genuine and strong. The relationship dynamic between Alex and poppy is so tender and heartwarming. I really, really enjoyed all their banter and their bonding during all the summers they spent together. The chemistry between them was so sexy and deep it was perfect! and the fact that they have such a deep emotional connection was just so beautiful.I went into this thinking it would be all fluffy, soft, and filled with summer vibes but omg it was definitely not just that. It was a big emotional roller coaster for me; it had so many intense and deeply emotional moments especially the last chapter but it also had some light and funny moments. It’s definitely my new favorite book right now. Though some things felt a bit unresolved, I still loved how everything came to an end.I give it a solid 5 stars. It’s a perfect read if you’re interested in best friends to lover’s trope and opposite attracts trope. I highly recommend it!!

PMWOV will make you hold your person tightly, leave a big smile on your face
It is one of the most lovely book, I have ever read. Whimsical, Charming and perfect amount of funny and Serious. You cannot, red this this and not fall in love with alex and poppy, Not adore their lifelong friendship and not Be in awe of their connection.Emily has a beautiful voice and the Female POV in this is a proof of that, she has way with words and Knows how to write in depth characters and their struggles. Some would say it felt like bubbling sexual tension,But It was more than just that, It was about missed chances, bad timmings and above all, It was about people we call our home. People who are not our escape fom regular life but are our happy life.

Alex and Poppy have made themselves at home in my brain and in my heart
This book reached into my chest and held my heart in a vice grip right from the first chapter and has still not let go.People We Meet on Vacation is the story of Alex and Poppy, who have personalities that are polar opposites of each other but have been best friends for twelve years after meeting in college. They have been taking a summer trip every year except for the past two years. Something happened on their last trip that has caused them to go from best friends to strangers with no contact. Poppy, being dissatisfied with her picture-perfect and amazing life, realizes that the last time that she was genuinely happy was on that trip with Alex. She then proposes to him that they take one last trip together. This story, narrated from Poppy’s point of view, switches between the present trip and their past vacation adventures where we get to see how their friendship develops. It was delightful to read about all the amazing and inspiring trips that they go on while I’m stuck at home during lockdown. It was fun but also heartbreaking at times to read about their current vacation.I don’t know how to point out any one particular emotion I felt while reading this. Poppy’s thoughts and Alex’s dry humor had me laughing out loud. But then you could also sense the weird uncertainty and tension that exists between them now that they haven’t been in touch for 2 years. When I read about Poppy’s sadness at having missed so much of his life, I cried right along with her. I could feel her longing for that familiarity that used to exist where they could talk to each other without stepping on any landmines.Sometimes, friends to lovers trope can make the characters look quite shallow or just stupid to have missed what was in front of them forever. But in this book, we see that they are both aware of the love for each other they have carried for all those years. It is just that the possibility of them getting romantically involved kept fluctuating depending on their situations at that point in time. This was a very tricky situation that the author created and it was very well handled.I loved watching Poppy grow, both personally and professionally. I loved how Alex was always there for her, how much he cared for her and could not fathom losing her. I loved their banter, their insane chemistry and also their comfort level around each other. I loved all the themes of their vacations. I loved how the author balanced contributions from the side characters in order to make the story just right. For the first time in a long time, I find myself thinking about not what book to read next, but about Alex and Poppy. Theirs was a real, raw, at times heartbreaking but beautiful journey. They have made themselves at home in my brain and in my heart. I will carry their story with me for years.Emily Henry has done a wonderful job telling us this poignant tale of friendship, angst, love and laughs.People We Meet on Vacation spoke to me.

Book was defective
The book is missing pages 89-120. The pages were replaced with a repeated pages 249-280. This is crazy and unacceptable.

Miraculously Awful
I devoured Emily’s first book, preordered this one, and then returned it after several chapters wondering how this was written by the same author. I then couldn’t believe the hype it was getting and figured it was me, so I then tried the audible version. What happened, and why are people loving this ? There is nothing to love about these characters and I dreaded every time she went back in time to a nonexistent story. There is no plot. There is just a lot of mentioning of Alex’s puppy dog face, which sounds like the absolute opposite of attractive .This was such a bummer.

Fell for the reviews, again
I should really stop relying on Amazon reviews to find good contemporary reads. If you enjoyed the elegant A Gentleman in Moscow or the engaging Where the Crawdads Sing, or the heart-racing American Dirt, this is going to fall so flat for you. Abby Jimenez is quoted on the back cover of the book saying “probably one of my favourite books of all time.” Yikes. Makes me wonder what else she reads. Here are my issues:1) The story is uninspired - it’s not creative and misses out on the premise of yearly vacations. There’s so much more that could have been built into those flashbacks, especially since the book is 361 pages long. It was actually quite a boring read.2) There is not really any character development. There’s a lot of surface analyzing, but considering the span of over a decade, the characters feel static. And they’re not particularly likeable or memorable either.3) While the writing flows easily, it’s not very elegant. There is a lot of dialogue, and you can tell the author spent a lot of time preparing witty exchanges between her characters. And she does pull it off. But there’s something inorganic and juvenile about it.4) All elements considered, the book feels written for a teen audience and not adults. I cringed several times. In summary, this book is just not inspired, doesn’t have an engaging storyline, and didn’t make me feel anything for either of the main characters. I’m just glad I’m done so I can move on to the next read. And as a measure of comparison, I’m a millennial, and I don’t know a single female friend who would consider this book her favourite summer read or anything close to that.

Five Stars for People We Meet On Vacation
Emily Henry has written a perfect romance. Poppy and Alex meet at college orientation and don't really make much of an impression on one another but end up car pooling home to Ohio after school ends. This leads to years of summer trips and a deep and abiding friendship. This homage to When Harry Met Sally is just so beautiful. It's funny and real and emotional. I highly recommend it.
