This is an American Standard part, not aftermarket, this worked much better then the aftermarket part that it replaced. The aftermarket part only lasted 1 year.

Excellent service. I received it a day earlier than expected and it was a blessing as I couldn't use the shower. The water was scorching hot. I purchased this part along with the cartridge, better to replace both at once to avoid having to open up everything again....and my shower is now in full operation! Never been so happy! Very Important - The old part was extremely hard to get out and I saw a lot of posting about this. Here's what I did: - Use a paint can opener tool and slowly try to pull out using the grooves around this part. This part is plastic so you have to be very carefully to break it out. - Throughout the process of trying to pull it out, I was spraying oil (WD-40 kind) and trying to spray it in. Waited a minute or two and began pulling out again. - You need to be very patient. The trick is to pull out from all around. It's not just about applying full force as you can break it and then you're really stuck. - Once you get it out, check to see that the rubber rings are not stuck on the inside. If so, take them out with pliers before inserting the new part.

It is exactly the right part, and it stopped the leak. I replaced the ceramic shutoff valve - that wasn't at all the problem, even though the washers were severely compressed. As I suspected, the problem is simply the 2 o-rings at the back. The green 1-way valves at the back detached from the unit and were stuck in their openings. I wish I would have experimented more with removing them to simply replace the o-rings, but I wasn't willing to risk it. Now that I know, I can recommend gently removing the two green valves and replacing the rings. For my, it was only the hot-water side that was the problem. Regardless, this is the genuine item. Leak stopped.
