Ivation Electric Cooler & Warmer, Portable Thermoelectric Fridge w/Handle

This is intended for short term use like weekend trips and such. I bought it for my trip across country from Seattle to Atlanta by car and it worked out great for cold snacks and drinks. A good year later a friend of mine needed it to keep cold drinks bedside awaiting surgery and running full time for 5 months straight it finally stopped working. I think it did far more than it was intended for that is why the 5 stars. Remember, this isn’t designed for full time use so I totally understand why it did what it did… no complaints here 👍🏼👍🏼

This fridge did the trick. It kept our food cool without freezing anything. The cooling and warming functions work quickly once power is connected and stays on. I have a Honda CRV hybrid with decent truck space, but I appreciate the vertical profile of this fridge because it conserves trunk space. We were able to hold the fridge, 4 - 22 inch rolling carryon bags, one- 15 inch rolling laptop bag, 2 shoulder overnight bags, and a dry food bag. It was snug, but that kept the fridge in place while still giving us access to it. While it has a vertical profile, it is still short enough that it did not exceed my trunk cover. We had garment bags on top of our trunk cover and the total trunk contents did not exceed the back seat head rests so my line of sight was clear, and I am only 5’2”. We have used this for two road trips thus far - one13 hour drive and the other a 5 hour drive. It was great not to have to get or replenish ice, which just takes up space in your cooler, and we loved not needing to dump out the melted ice water. It definitely kept our tuna fish sandwiches, yogurt, and fruit cool but not to the point of freezing anything - which was great. If you want to keep something frozen, I doubt it would do that. Figuring out the locking and unlocking system did take a few minutes. I have not used the warming function but did accidentally turn it on when I first used it, and it seemed to work. The light helpfully notified us that we had the warming function on and once we switched it to cool, the fridge cooled down quickly. When our hybrid car was not running the fridge turned off, but the interior of the fridge stayed cool for more than half of an hour. It could have been longer, but that was the average length of our stops. The fridge interior Is not massive but held enough for 4 people. It took us a minute to figure out that the handle serves as a lock - the handle to back locks the fridge while the handle to the front unlocks it and allows you to open the fridge. This is great tool to keep your contents from falling out if the fridge tips over, but it would have been nice if the instructions mentioned that. The first trip we spent about 5 minutes figuring out how to open the fridge and had to keep reminding each other to flip the handle forward when we wanted to open it. NOTE: if your truck is not full, you may need a way to secure it because it will just slide around in an empty trunk. Once we took out our luggage, hearing the fridge slide around our trunk did get a little annoying as we drove around. Also it’s fairly light weight so I could easily see using it to take food to an outdoor event.

Purchased this cooler for a weekend camping trip and it worked perfect! Everything stayed cold, even when we unplugged it for the night (milk, sour cream, cheese, meat). It is a little noisy, but it's bigger than I thought and held everything we needed.

I’m giving this a one star because it holds the temperature at a a seriously dangerous level. We bought this a couple of years ago. Haven’t used it much but just started to use it more. It had been sitting on my counter all weekend, plugged in to 110, and it didn’t feel cold. I tested it with a thermometer and it was 54 degrees. Food safety says it should be below 30 degrees. So if you are using this for anything other than sodas, don’t buy it.

*UPDATE Below* Ok so I’m an owner/operator of my semi-truck and we all use these things on the road. I had another popular brand that’s sold at many truck-stops across the country and it only lasted a year. So I found myself on Amazon scouring through the reviews of several and after reading some reviews about this product that were clearly owner errors, I decided to purchase one! I’ve had it since 2/16/23 and it’s been with me 5 days on the road. I absolutely love the 2 power cord option with storage! I have only used it with the regular plug in the wall cord because my truck has a built in power inverter with regular outlets. It’s not noisy like others complain about. It runs quietly. I put a 12 pack of zero sugar soda, room temperature in it and plugged it in. It took about 2 hours to pull all them down to around 40-43 degrees. There’s lots of room in it as well! Check out the pics to see how much I got to fit in it! I did drink 3 cans of soda prior to the picture, but they fit in it as well! I use this for my sit next to my drivers seat cooler so I can keep beverages and a bunch of veggie snacks cold & available to me as drive. So far it’s worked flawlessly for 5 days of straight running and no power off. If anything changes, I’ll report back here with an update. But for $35 cheaper than truck stop brands… it’s been a great buy for me! Update: March 20th, This cooler has ran pretty much non-stop for a month straight and it works amazing so far. Again I keep it plugged in using the 110 cord. 1 time I had to switch over to the 12v cord and I was a bit surprised, the metal tip was extremely hot and I could see how after a long use it might melt, but I probably had it plugged in that way for 6 hours. I’ll keep posting updates! I’m very happy so far. August 30th, 2023 6 months! Been pretty much running nonstop for me! Keeps everything nice and cold. It did tip over once when I went around a corner and now my fan has a little bit of a noise to it. Oddly the noise goes away when I lift the lid all the way open? But when I close it, it comes back. It’s not unbearable and it hasn’t stopped it from cooling! I’ll continue to use it as my beverage and snack cooler to sit next to my seat until it dies out. Again I’ve also ran this ONLY on AC current through my power inverter. So I guess here’s to hoping I can update positively in another 6 months! June 13th, 2024 It’s dead. It ran pretty much non-stop from date of purchase and after 16 months it no longer works. I never used the 12v plug in because it got hot when I did and I see other reviews where theirs had melted so I used the regular outlet to my power inverter. I did try it in the 12v plug to see if by chance it was the other cord. Nope, it’s dead. It barely lights up the light green and won’t turn on the fan. The red light on heat lights up completely, but again the fan doesn’t turn on. Anyways, I’ve had other coolers like this last years. Guess I’ll have to go back to one of those brands. I gave it a good go, sorry Ivation your product just couldn’t hold up to this trucker.

I am so loving this cooler! We have a vacation home 6 hours away and when we leave there we always have food leftover. This cooler is absolutely perfect for brining home leftovers, picking up something on the way home, etc. I didn’t think the cord being stowed inside was a big deal but now that I have this I see the value of it. No losing the cord, no having the cord dangling around. Very good design! It is lightweight and very easy to carry. I have not used it as a warmer so can not speak to that feature.

Works great! Keeps food at 40 degrees. I find it works best with a small blue ice pack in the bottom.

El funcionamiento es excelente, definitivamente una adquisición muy útil para viajes largos en auto. El tamaño también es muy práctico. Puesto que el compresor es muy pequeño, tiene un gran espacio de almacenamiento sin usar mucho espacio. En viajes de varias horas, lo que introdujimos congelado llegó congelado aún.

Ça marche merveilleusement. J'ai utilise cette petite glacière (première voyage) pour transporter de la viande et des jus pendant plus de 8h et elle a fonctionnée parfaitement, la viande était gelé avant et elle est arrivée idem. Elle est assez étroite pour la transporter dans l'espace derrière la chaise du conducteur dans une voiture régulier et pas du bruit. Le voyage de retour aucun problème non plus (il faisait 35°C à l'extérieur) et les choses sont restées assez froides, donc, 100% recommandée. Avant de l'utiliser, assurez-vous de la connecter avec la prise du mûr pour 1h plus ou moins et que les produits que vous voulez transporter son déjà réfrigérés.

C'est une glacière et non un réfrigérateur donc, il faut l'aider un peu. Je mets une bouteille d'eau 500 ml gelée au fond et une autre sur le dessus de la nourriture et la nourriture que j'y mets est refrigérée au préalable. Je ne peux donner de l'information en ce qui concerne la conservation du lait (comme certains en parlent) car j'utilise du lait en poudre donc je fais mes quantités au fur-et-à-mesure. Ça fonctionne bien même en camping. Lors de l'achat, mon unité allait bien et était plus ou moins bruyante. Deux semaines plus tard, elle faisait un bruit d'enfer comme sur la vidéo (67.5 décibels). J'ai contacté le vendeur même si le délais de retour était légèrement dépassé. Il m'a recommandé de contacter le fabricant à l'adresse courriel dans le livret d'instruction. [email protected] Ivation m'a demandé d'envoyer une vidéo afin de démontrer le problème. Rapidement, ils m'ont répondu en me disant que suite à leurs observations, mon appareil serait défectueux et qu'ils m'enverraient un nouveau couvercle (facile à installer). Je l'ai reçu quelques jours après et ça fonctionne à merveille et est moins agressant pour mes oreilles. Ce sont des choses qui arrivent et quand on a un bon service après-vente, c'est super! J'adore ma petite glacière qui s'installe sans problème derrière le siège avant de ma petite voiture !
