A refreshingly new masterpiece in the Fantasy genre
I began developing my love of fantasy novels by reading Tolkien and then R. Salvatore (The Forgotten Realms), and also other works like "The Black Company". Overlord is not a traditional fantasy, but it is rather a story written by the author , with numerous suggestions added in from online readers. This adds a robust and detailed world and writing style, reminiscent of Victor Hugo, that has the darkness of a gothic work, and the relaxed reading feel of a leisure article. The chapters each have a wonderful and darkly enchanting illustrations, of which I wish there were more of, and the author Kugane Maruyama spends significant time and energy building and clearly conveying to the reader an increasingly interesting storyline. This is the type of read that I would suggest for any teenager or older, who might be interested in fantasy novels. It is easy to read, has a fun, ever developing storyline, and a plethora of characters to get attached to. The only negative of this work, for which I cannot, in good faith, bring myself to penalize it for , is that due to it being originally written in Japanese , some parts of the translation are convoluted or difficult to understand, even though the translator did, in my estimation, an excellent job. The editor could have minimized this issue by ensuring a proper application of commas and punctuation. Otherwise, I encourage everyone to read this work and it's upcoming volumes. Having had read it already in its earlier online form (before it was a commercial product for sale), I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed with where the story goes. Enjoy!

Best Fantasy Novel 2016
Overlord finds itself as the latest entry in the growing field of trapped in a game world series. YenON publishes other series of this type (Log Horizon, Sword Art Online, No Game No Life), so fans of their books will easily find themselves at home here. What sets this one apart is that instead of having a lead who provides all the solutions to ever problem with his epic skills as the fated human, we have a big bad raid dungeon boss of an undead variety who has no other allies except the ones he created who faces the challenge of trying to spread his guilds name while trying to be somewhat human. Easily he ranks high up on the list for leads that actually kill characters and at times one wonders if he is an antagonist but I think he stays somewhat human. This makes the book very interesting. The writing starts off a bit slow with little to no conflict provided beyond just detailing the world, but that sort of mystery provides the intrigue to keep people interested. Why is Satoru Suzuki trapped in this world? Are there are other humans here? How does this world have elements of Yggdrasil in it? Will the guardians of the floors turn back on him ever? All this and more are things that kept my interest and will keep my interest in the series. The cast is filled with great characters who have many rich interactions with each other and with the lead character. I cant wait for more time with many of them.Easily this is the best fantasy book of this year thus far.Quality wise, excellent paper choice chosen for this hardcover book helped to enhance the great colored artwork on the pages. so-bin has great art and the style works well with the paper choice, it truly feels like a ornate tome you'd find in any medieval setting. There were about four noticeable grammar typos though. Minor but noticeable.

Great Series
Been wanted to pick up this novel series for a while. Story is great and the book itself came in good condition. I was worried that the dust cover would be damaged but it wasn't so great job on that.

An Honest Review
I originally watched the anime to see if I would like the style of the story turns out I really loved it but there were parts that didn't seem to quite make sense so I figure the light novels would give better explanation. Which they of course did. The book itself does well in explaining the MC's thoughts and struggles. Tons of folks would say the translation was not the best but so far the book explains the story just fine so don't worry about that. The book came in good shape no tears or anything of the like. I cannot complain about anything that I've experienced with any of this. If you really liked the anime but want more info on the what's and why's the light novels will be a great read for you. If any people complain about this book it's either due to elitism or poor shipping. I can't imagine some one not happy just because the book wasn't what they expected. You paid for it with little to no research that's your fault. Also as a final bit what I really like about this book is it takes a little inspiration from D&D with the magic tier levels other wise this stuff seems original. Great work to the author, illustrator, and translator. Ready for all the books to come out. In case any of you are wondering there are 11 books total and only 4 are translated via hard cover and I believe the series isn't over yet.

An interesting start
What happens when you're over worked, under appreciated, and the only thing you have as an escape is being shut down? For most of us it just sucks and we have to live with it.This is what happens when your escape ends but takes you with it.This is defiantly an interesting story, about a guy who only really had the game world he spent his free time in, and the people who had once been a part of it with him. But times change, people stop logging in, and now everything is going dark. But that's not the end.

Gran saga y buen libro
Muy buen libro, un poco corto pero excelente libro, hay que tener un poco de cuidado con el papel del libro porque se maltrata muy fácil y son hermosas las imágenes que trae cada capítulo

Very good read and nicely done illustrations
I think this book is a very good and entertaining read with great and detailed descriptions but does require me to use the dictionary as the words and phrases used are not ones you would typically come across in fictionally boobs and seems to be aimed at readers who 15 years and older.
