Can you turn the volume up? My keys were in my bed and the sound was too low for me to hear.

The volume is simply too low and cannot be increased. Unless completely unobstructed, it cannot be heard except very faintly.

Is it slim enough to fit between most phones and their case? If not how exactly is it supposed to attach to a cell phone?

They will not fit in a phone case. They are about 1/4 inch thick. You would have have something for a key chain ring to hook to. Our purpose for buying was to find lost keys and they work great for that.
