Question 1

Why is Burma not called Myanmar?

Accepted Answer

The very short answer is that we use "Burma" because that's the name used by the USA and UK, neither of whom recognised the military junta that decreed the name should be changed to "Myanmar" (although the United Nations do use the name "Myanmar"). The formal title is actually The Republic Of The Union Of Myanmar!

In fact, it's really quite complicated in terms of the naming - in the country itself, they have 2 names that are commonly use... Myanma and Bama. Myanma is the literary name of the country whereas Bama is the spoken name and more colloquial version - the literary/spoken diffferences are fundamental to the country's language. The military junta decided to change the English name for the country to Myanma - they added an extra "r" to try to make it be pronounced more accurately - yet they didnt change the official name of the country in Burmese. Opposition parties (and human rights groups) believe renaming it to Myanmar is disrespectful of minorities who don't speak Burmese and it should have been left as Burma/Bama.

Finally, it's worth pointing out that in the country itself you will find both names used and nobody really cares which one you use... there really is no right or wrong name in this case!

Question 2

What is on the back?

Accepted Answer

We do not print on the reverse of our placemats as our market research showed that parents didn't want their children turning the mat over during meal times - potential for lots of accidents!Regards-Little Wigwam.

Question 3

How many pieces are on the puzzle?

Accepted Answer

This is not a puzzle. It is a plastic covered placemat. A placemat is put on the kitchen table. As you view it daily you can learn all the flags of every country. Basically it is a learning tool that is useful to put your food plate on top of it.

Question 4

Is it laminated? TY

Accepted Answer

Little Wigwam placemats (and posters) are made entirely from polypropylene plastic which is completely waterproof and spill-proof, unlike laminated paper or cardboard products, and are of course wipe-clean. Our placemats and posters are also 100% recyclable, unlike laminated products which of course are just a piece of plastic stuck on top of paper/cardboard so they can't be recycled.
