Would this be good to put in the bottom of a chainsaw case to catch the chain oil when it drips out from sitting during the off season?

That is eactly what I bought it for. I lined the bottom of 3 separate chainsaw cases, and it works really well. Very good product!

Is this resistant to high levels of heat?

I have used them in the bilge next to hot engine blocks if that's what you're asking. The inner material hasn't broken down even in high heat areas. However, the outer material is some type of cloth; I don't know that it's fire-retardant.

Would this be okay to use on the surface of the water of a swimming pool to remove body and suntan oils?

I don’t don’t know as I haven’t not tried it. It catches oil and fluid nicely when working on a car. There are other products made to absorb oils in pools.
