Easy install and works great
We installed the brake controller on our 2014 GMC Acadia. We will be towing a 2014 Aliner with electric brakes. This was an easy install using the GMC cable adapter that we purchased separately. It was as simple as plugging in the cable to the car and the Controller to the cable. It works fine and I can feel the trailer slowing the vehicle when I step on the brake rather than pushing it.We opted for a no-drill install, using adhesive velcro strips from a hobby store's sewing department. We used two strips and ran them horizontally. If you choose this method, you may want to allow the velcro to adhere well to the dash panel for a day or so before adding the weight of the controller, especially in hot weather.

New to brake controllers
This is the first time I've towed a trailer. I have a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk with factory tow package as my towing vehicle (TV). It's rated to 4500lbs towing capacity with 300lb hitch weight. My trailer is a 2004 Aliner Expedition, with a dry weight of 1175lbs, GVWR 2500.Wasn't concerned about towing around town, but my camping plans included lots of altitude changes and narrow winding roads, and I didn't want to risk overheating my TV brakes. So glad I bought this unit. It's easily adjustable on the fly, and the trailer brakes really make a difference when it counts. I can't compare to other pricier, multi-featured units, but for a newbie this meet and exceeded my hopes and expectations. I do turn it all the way down for around town/parking, as I haven't mastered feathering my brakes with it in those situations and stops/starts are pretty rough, but for highway and steep descents it was really helpful and gave me great piece of mind.Highly recommend.

Exactly what I needed
From my prior job where we hauled a rather heavy trailer with a large forklift around I spent a good amount of time using higher end brake controllers. Until moving to built-in controllers, we used Tekonsha controllers. I just recently moved and had the opportunity to borrow a 16" toy hauler which had trailer brakes. The good: First and foremost I was very happy I purchased this it did exactly what I needed in helping manage a heavier trailer on my 2013 Tacoma V6 (yes it has the tow package). Because my truck was pre-wired with the 7 pin RV plug and already had a plug for a brake controller I purchased the brake controller wiring from Tekonsha (also on Amazon) and it literally installed by just connecting two electrical connectors. If you are buying any controller and are pre-wired, get the wiring harness that just plugs in. I ended up purchasing a controller rather than borrowing just to have in the future in case the need arises. If I owned (or end up owning) a trailer I would go ahead and pick up a higher end unit. This unit does have a manual engagement, the feedback on how much it is braking is a couple of LED's which change from green to red based on braking force. For the price and if you find yourself needing a rarely used controller I think you cannot go wrong with this.It does not have the same features and display as a higher/more expensive unit. If you are going to be hauling a trailer with brakes frequently I do think you should spend the additional money for one of the better units. Those units seem better constructed, provide more feedback, and seem a bit more progressive on braking.

Easy peasy
Don't let an RV dealer con you into thinking installing this brake modulator is a big deal. I installed in our 2019 Nissan Frontier in about 15 minutes. No special tools needed other than a drill to make pilot holes for the screws and a screw driver. Works perfectly. Excellent value.
