Kaweco BRSP-BR Mechanical Pencil, Brass, Sports, 0.03 inch (0.7 mm)

I had always wanted a brass fountain pen. Of course, one has to have one before he or she, or me, realizes just how heavy brass writing instruments can be. I love my Kaweco brass fountain pen though and decided I had to have the matching pencil (no, I'm not reviewing the fountain pen for the pencil). The pencil is a little different in looks, obviously. Unlike a traditional pen and pencil set these look different enough to stand out in that difference. However, from snout to tail, the pencil is the same length as the pen. The brass gains that wonderful patina that makes brass so enjoyable (unless you are the type who wants their brass shiny - this is not a fire station and the patina looks great to me). The little chrome part at the tip of the pencil sure stands out. The pencil works well as can be expected from the brand. I use it to sketch on the go mainly or if I want to write with pencil for erasing though this does not have an eraser. I like .07 lead so that aspect is not a bad thing either. I prefer this to the clutch pencil, which I also have. I use it for sketching but rarely carry it with me. The mechanism is smooth and adding lead is easy. If you want a mechanical pencil, there is a world of options. If you want a brass one, there are other options. However, for portability, quality, and the relative match to the brass sport version of the fountain pent, this is awesome. Besides, you can set it down and it does not roll anywhere.

It is a metal body after all. Just be sure you like the heft in your hand as you write, as I do. I own two other Kaweco sport pens, one also brass, and the other brushed stainless. I think the pocket size complements the weight of this pen. If it were full size in this same material, it would probably be too much for anyone. The lead advance mechanism works smoothly, but don’t expect to load up the “reservoir” with a lot of refills. It seems to accept only 1-2 at a time.

This is my second Kaweco mechanical pencil and it is exactly what I wanted. The weight is perfect if you like a heavy writing instrument and I do.. I also got the clip and all in all can't imagine a better mechanical pencil. I use it exclusively for writing and am very pleased. You'll never need another mechanical pencil.

I've returned the pencil for 1 reason: the advancement component will eventually fail, and it cannot be replaced. I ended up with the Staedtler 925. I like buying forever items. This isn't one of those.

This completed my Kaweco Brass Sport collection, and as well crafted as their other writing instruments. You'll never go wrong with this brand. I prefer the Brass although you do have to buy a clip if you don't just want to carry the sport model around in a pocket. Amazon sells the clips also, and I'd recommend the Kaweco solid clip, not the one Levenger sells which is flat.They come in a variety of metals. Eventually will develop a patina from use, but most fine quality pens and mechanical pencils are made of brass but have an enamel or other coating. I like the look of the real thing, and only Kaweco delivers across all types of writing instruments.

Beautiful, excellent quality, easily pocketable pencil.

Initially had doubts but was pleasantly surprised once I began to write with it. Good weight and balance and comfortable! Despite barrel size holds only 4 leads max as the internal mechanism is small. Works flawlessly though and haven’t had any feeding issues. Pleased with purchase!

Although the photos show the Tim container, it was sent in the kaweco card box. The pencil is fine otherwise.

So to start, i want to clarify some things I wondered about prior to purchasing this pencil : - There is no cap. - Comes with a tin case. The tin case is made for Kaweco's fountain pen, so the graphic on the tin case as well as the inner foam is made for a fountain pen and a cap. The spot for the cap is empty - so it looks kind of weird. - You need to buy the clip separately. (shake fist at kaweco). On the other hand, that allows you to personalize your pencil somewhat, with different coloured clips. The pencil itself is gorgeous, solid chunk of brass. I use it for drawing, and i find the balance of a solid chunk of brass is better than most pencils that are heavy up top or heavy down by the barrel. This one is heavy throughout, lol. The click action is very satisfying, its tight and purposeful. Its a joy to use, and thats really the reason anyone should buy such an expensive pencil - so that the act of drawing and writing is enjoyable.

Alors pourquoi payer un porte mine à ce prix là? Pour la durabilité : Dès que vous avez ce porte mine dans la main, vous sentez la robustesse du laiton. La solidité du mécanisme de pression, et le poids d'un objet en métal fait pour durer toute une vie. Je l'utilise tous les jours, et il ne me déçoit pas. L’esthétique : Ne cherchez pas ailleurs vous ne trouverez pas. Le design Kaweco est unique en son genre, il rappelle les années 50 ou 60, les belles années de nos grands parents, les cheveux gominés et les pubs pour les cigarettes lucky strike. C'est vintage et sexy. En plus avec le temps, le laiton développe une sorte de patine avec la graisse des mains, ce qui renforce l'aspect ancien de l'objet. Bon il n'y a pas de gomme intégrée, mais personnellement ça ne me gène pas, j'ai toujours pensé que les gommes étaient une erreur sur un porte mine.
