It is generally comparable to what you would see on a shotgun shooting jacket with a quilted shoulder pad. Absorbs some of the shotgun's recoil, but certainly not all of it. I put a gel-pad on the butt of my shotgun in addition to using this shoulder pad. **Q: Best way to clean??** A: They have suede cleaning brushes and products you can use. **Q: How long is the strap at its longest point?** A: the strap it self is almost 32'' long. I have a 49'' chest and still have about 12'' of adjustment **Q: Is this item made in America?** A: Not 100% sure, but the packaging on the Wayne's Dog shoulder pad I received from Amazon seemed to indicate that it was made in China.
