Mercer Culinary 11" x 2" Knife Guard

I got a super high-end knife set in a beautiful wooden box. The knives are extremely sharp and I immediately learned that I could not just throw them in our utencil drawers. Not only the blade would be banged and up but also we'll all cut our hands trying to reach the knives. They definitely need a dedicated storage space. The wooden box that came with the knives is fancy. But my kitchen space is very limited and I have no place to keep it where I can easily reach and I don't either have a knife block or spot for it. I see many (TV) chefs use those knife rolls so I was looking into it. But I just want it for my new chef's knife and those rolls are for multiple knives. Luckily, Amazon knew what I was looking for and this knife guard popped up on my feed. I've checked similar items from different companies but for some reason, this one was only $3,00! So I said why not and ordered it. I'm glad that I did! This blade guard perfectly fits my 8" Canshang Chef's Knife. Well, the word "perfectly" might not be completely true because it would not cover the whole knife. But it does what it is supposed to do, guard the sharp blade.. The opening is rather tight so I have to place the knife slowly and carefully. I was wishing it could be a bit looser so it'd be easier for me to place the knife in the guard. Then I realized if it was too loose, the knife could come apart in the drawer. Because it's tight, it is also secure. This was a great found and works very well for me.

Excellent quality. Very sturdy. Reasonably priced. I’ve purchased several in various sizes and they all fit my knives perfectly. Because I don’t really care for the countertop knife blocks, these guards are an excellent way to safely store knives in the drawer. Easily retrieve them with no risk of injury. I would highly recommend!!!

This blade protector works. For proof, I have this 360mm Nisaku Namida Bread knife that has never ever fit any of the blade sleeve protectors I put on it.. Until now. This fit almost perfectly: it was 2 inches thick, which is enough for the height of the blade, and with a length of 14 inches, it fit better than I expected. Were it not for the angled opening it would have been perfect, but honestly it still does the job that I need it to do: Protect my blade and protect my family. In conclusion, if you have a long blade that is 14 inches long, get this. Such a long blade guard is rare. I have it mounted next to the rest of my collection atm, and I am happy it fits.

I got this knife guard a while back after I got tired of digging around my drawer and finding my chef's knife rubbing against other utensils. The blade was starting to get those little nicks, and I figured it was time to protect it properly. It does what it's supposed to do. The knife slides in snug and stays put, so I don't worry about it slipping out when I reach for something else in the drawer. The fit is firm without being a fight to get the knife in and out, which I appreciated. The material feels decent and not flimsy. I've had it for a bit now and it hasn't cracked or warped on me. The inside has a sort of lining that keeps the blade from scraping, and I think that's the part that actually makes a difference over time. Where it falls a little short for me is that it only fits one of my knives well. I have a couple of wider blades and they don't go in without forcing it, so I ended up using it for just the one. If you have thicker knives, that's something to keep in mind. Also, it doesn't lock or snap shut, it just slides on, which is fine for drawer storage but I wouldn't trust tossing it loose in a bag. For the price it's a solid buy. It's not fancy but it gets the job done and my edge has stayed in way better shape since I started using it. Nothing to complain about for what it costs.

I am satisfied with this purchase. The product arrived on time, was well-packaged, and matches the description. The quality is good and met my expectations. So far, it works as expected, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable product that offers good value for money.

I can't speak to durability, sturdiness or value for the money since it's still rather new and time will only prove those three things. I decided not long ago I really needed to invest in better knives, I've been using those real cheap knives from the Chinese houseware stores for most of my life but they do not sharpen up very well, nor do they stay "sharp" very long and before I die (my bucket list) I really wanted at least 2 really good (pretty good, I do not know what qualifies as really good) knives and bought two. I love them, I sit there just looking at them, they are so lovely, so sharp, so beautiful and slice like you wouldn't believe. Anyway, now that I have my beautiful knives, I needed to protect them. I only have about 30" of counter space to work in so I don't have space for one of those knife blocks and the way the wall is you can't put a magnet strip there. Oh, yes, I have one drawer for all my kitchen utensils, flatware, everything. So I'm using a shallow box to keep things I use all the time including my knives which I have had in those rigid plastic knife sheathes but they are open on top and stuff gets in there including moisture/oil in the air (it is a much used kitchen). So, looked around and saw this. My newest beautiful knife was too big for the other cloth guards I'd bought but this one fits like a glove. It feels sturdy to me, the razor sharp knife edge hasn't cut through the fabric (yet?), seems to be protecting my precious knife. In other words, so far, it's working very well and I can easily tell my excellent knife from all the lousy Chinese-made ones just by its cover.

After trying to unintentionally trying to slice my finger in half with my insanely sharp new and oddly shaped bread knife I needed a cover that would work with it. This fills the spot perfectly it's like it was made for it and highly recommend it. Unlike a sheath that comes with a knife (If the manufacturer supplies one at all) this is made a bit overlarge to fit a variety of blades.

Doesn't guard tip of 8" chef knife with short bolster. About half inch of knife point will stick out if knife slides up. Suggest a bag to keep it in place.

(Full Review) I love these Knife Guards by Mercer. I own a selection of sizes to fit all the extra knives I have that aren't part of the set in the block I recently bought. Certain knives didn't come with the set and I didn't want to make do so opted to keep some seperates. When buying a Tomato knife which I'd always been lacking and knowing how sharp they can be I didn't fancy leaving it unguarded in the cutlery drawer and risk cuts, so I thought that was the perfect time to buy knife guards. I looked at several different makes which were quite expensive for what they were where you're paying for the name rather than how beneficial they are before I came across these. They are inexpensive and basic looking yet still very good at what they do. I bought a selection of sizes to cover all loose knives of all random makes and types and found they fit all of them really well. After reading what afew other reviewers (UK and abroad) have written afew people seem confused how best to use/operate them correctly and in their words are either risking cuts or damaged knives, neither of which anyone wants!! So that spurred me on to write my own review to hopefully assist in the correct safe way to use and make use of these Knife Guards. So firstly, if you happen to buy one that is slightly smaller or larger than the blade then it's actually ok. To be safe you need to ensure the point of the blade is contained within the guard and not worry if 1 or 2 inches max closest to the handle is showing outside the Guard as you are much less likely to injure yourself in this case whereas the point can do instant damage as I'm sure we've all been unfortunate to feel at one point or another (sorry for the pun). It's also perfectly safe for the top blunt edge to be outside if the Guard is narrower (slimmer) that the blade. Note this is called a Guard not a Sheath. So when it comes to adding or removing your knife to the Guard you Won't be Sliding it. In fact you won't be able to as these are designed to grip the blade. Mercer recommend (but I'm going to go into much more detail to fully explain their basic guidelines to be sure of no confusion): •Adding the Knife to the Guard - Hold the Guard in one hand resting the outer edge in your palm and gripping the two sides with fingers and thumb below the raised rim of the entry slot. This ensures a stable grip that doesn't get in the line of the blade. With the other hand griping the knife handle line up and rest the blade edge in position on the slot. Apply gentle pressure pushing the tip end 1st into place, then pressing the rest of the blade down into position. You can slightly slide the last cm into place if necessary to ensure a tight fit as long as the blade tip remains inside the Guard by atleast 1cm but 2cm is best to be sure. •Removing the knife from the Guard - To remove it you basically reverse what you did to add the knife. Hold the Guard in one hand, grip with fingers and thumb. With other hand holding handle lift handle upwards in a hinge motion until the knife is fully removed, from handle to point. By following the above advice both your fingers and knife will not be damaged and the Guard will also remain in perfect condition.
