I bought the orange/white Manvex slim for my 8.9 HD Kindle Fire. I love the design because it completely wraps around the Kindle so that the Kindle is fully protected. The orange is bright orange, and the white is very white. The Kindle fits the case perfectly. It is held in the case by a velcro latch at the bottom of the case (when horizontal), so that the Kindle will never fall out of the case. The case allows for different levels of standing position in horizontal mode, especially great for watching a movie/video in bed. It's held into position by the weight of the Kindle on the suede-feel of the inside cover (that you see as beige in the picture). There is a magnetic latch that holds the cover closed. Upon closing the cover, the Kindle turns off automatically, and upon opening, the Kindle turns on. However, one problem with this case is that if you fold the cover all the way back so that the cover is behind the Kindle, it also turns off the Kindle when you don't mean to turn it off. I think it may be a magnet in the cover that activates and deactivates the Kindle, so you have to keep the Kindle cover open like a book and not fold it back. There is a magnetic latch that keeps the cover closed when not in use, so that I will remain closed even if you drop it. At the bottom of the case (when horizontal) is an opening that allows you to charge the Kindle or to use the HDMI connection. However, you do have to decide if the case will be closed or open during the connection as you will have to unplug the connection to open or close the cover once plugged.The case is well designed to protect the Kindle and convenient to stand the Kindle up to watch a movie. I'm not sure if it is important if this case is leather or not if it does the job of protecting the Kindle. However, for those who wonder, I have a feeling that it is not real leather as it is too perfect of a material. The inside portion feels like suede leather, but it has no scratches or lines on the suede, while the outside doesn't seem so real as it is just too perfectly clean. Usually real leather has imperfections, and this case has no imperfections.

Don't expect thick leather "suitcase" quality and you will be happy. Will update review at a later date if necessary.Update 11-19-12 - - Used it as a stand, worked good, best part is when set up as a stand, it actually enhances the speaker volume. I came back and read the recent reviews....I bought mine October 21st, prior to getting my Kindle. I detected no bad smells or saw anything that would reflect negatively. I give it light use everyday since I got the Kindle, no issues. I'm wondering if there is newer manufactured ones that are not the same as mine??? Mine has a magnetic closure, not velcro and does look different than the one currently shown. I posted some photos marked cw to show what I have (from the same seller). The one you see in my pictures is the one I base my review on.UPDATE 10-3-2014 Guess I got lucky with the first release of this product. Mine is still working great with no issues, showing very little sign of fatigue. Again I say my review of my product is accurate, the newer version of this cover sounds like a P.O.S.

Overall the case has a nice feel and protects the Kindle Fire 8.9 nicely. The ability to prop the Kindle up for viewing is a nice bonus. The magnetic catch securely holds the cover in place. I took the Fire on a trip and the cover nicely protected the Fire in my carry on luggage including the typical getting shoved in the overhead compartment. The thick case extends around the device ensuring that no corners are exposed to possible bumps. I have not tested but it looks like the Fire can take a short drop while in this case.As can be expected the cover makes the Fire slightly heavier and holding the device up tends to fatigue your arms when held in the air. The other minor points is the case fits tightly around the screen so it becomes difficult to pull down the top bar menu such as when you need to access the settings. Finally, slightly annoying is the fact this case opens to the right as opposed to a normal book that opens to the left. I know there are places in the world where this is the normal way to read but it has been an annoyance to naturally open the device and discover it is upside down. Due to the location of the power on and volume buttons I prefer not to hold the device upside down and some apps prefer not to invert as well. But, technically I guess there is not correct orientation to the device and this may be more of my own OCD.For the price these minor annoyances are not a show stopper and I would buy this case again. I feel confident that my device is protected and enjoy bring my Fire on the road with me.
