## Description

Product Description In 1969, Douglas G. Howard set out to solve this dilemma: how can you eliminate blemishes in wood finishes and restore the original color and luster without removing any of the existing finish? Unable to find an answer at his local hardware store, he went to work in his garage to create his own product. His goal was to make something that would be much more than a surface treatment, yet nothing like a stripper or a refinisher. The key was to develop a formula that could clean and polish the surface, penetrate the finish with stain, and leave the original finish intact. The end result was Restor-A-Finish, Doug Howard's first in what would become a complete line of wood care products. For over 40 years, Howard's Restor-A-Finish has been a standard in the antique industry. Because Restor-A-Finish preserves the original wood finish it also helps preserve its authenticity and value, whereas stripping the finish may literally strip the piece of its value. Almost any existing wood tone, from a Birdseye Maple to a Jacobean, can be closely matched using one of the nine available finish colors. Trying it on just about everything with a traditional wood finish, antique dealers, refinishers, and homemakers have found it to be a safer and easier alternative to stripping and refinishing. Scratches, oxidation, white heat rings, watermarks, smoke damage, and sun fade simply disappear. Review: Perfect polish for all wood furniture. - This is the best furniture polish. Easy to apply, great finish and no order. My furniture looks brand no ew and got rid of little scratches.
Review: Makes old furniturte almost new - Nothing except total refinishing will make old, scratched, damaged furniture look new. But some products have the ability to make it look really good, and this one of those products. I used the suggested 0000 steel wool pads and poured the restorer on the pad. Wiping with the grain of the wood, applying various amounts of pressure depending on the severity of the damage. Once the first round was applied and then wiped off with a clear cotton cloth, I waited 30 minutes and repeated the process. Then did it again a third time. The product really works well, but again, it's no miracle worker. Several thoughts on the product. First off if the finish is chipped or gouged to bare wood, this will not improve that area. You need a furniture color pen to darken the wood, or use a filler and then a furniture pen and blend the area to match. Also start with a light color restorer, (I used the Golden Oak), and if that doesn't work as well as expected you can also go to a darker shade, but you can't go from dark to light. Finally the rags you use as well as the steel wool will be hazardous due to the solvent they retain. Rags with solvent can self-combust so please dispose of them properly. I suggest either soaking them in water before placing them outside in a closed garbage can or in a metal can with the lid tightly closed. I usually have a few empty paint cans from a big box store just for such purpose. The photos speak for themselves. A good product for easy refinishing to a much better finish.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which color should I get if I have dark expresso color wood?**
A: Their Ebony Brown shade is ideal for modern Espresso finishes. I've used it to dramatic and fantastic effect. Great stuff!

**Q: what to use to clean wood first and then after the application of restor a finish**
A: I dust first. If it's really bad, I use Howard OrangeOil Wood Polish first. The Restore-A-Finish actually cleans as you use it.

**Q: Would you recommend this color for a teak dining table? I'm not sure if the other finishes would work better.**
A: I wouldn't, I would go darker on teak. This stuff does not really add any color like a stain would. I have used golden oak for kitchen oak cabinets, and dark oak for 25 year old Minwax 230 Early American stained oak trim, and cherry for an antique cherry dininig room table and they all did not "darken" anything. This stuff isn't a stain and it should only restore any mis-colored spots, if its a dark teak -I would use the dark oak.

**Q: Where can I see samples of the colors of this product?**
A: On the website

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to use, good finish
*by S***. on September 10, 2026*

This was easy to use and my kitchen and bathroom cabinets turned out great. I purchased disposable work rags since using microfiber or other reusable materials aren't a good idea for a flammable product. I wore gloves and had all windows and doors open, so the area was well ventilated. I like this product and recommend it.
